This past Saturday we drove to Garrison North Dakota to partake in The Dickens Festival, the official Christmas Capital of North Dakota. This event is an all weekend event held the last week of November and each December weekend preceding Christmas. The event is 30 years old and it gets bigger every year. Here are a few pictures I snapped.All of us enjoyed the tour of the town of Garrison ND on the Queen Elizabus, as Timmothy's smile attests.Most every store and service was open including the ND Firefighters Museum.Most of the shoppe keepers were dressed for the occasion. VILLAGE FESTIVALFor years the little village of Garrison North Dakota has held it's own little creation called The Dickens Festival. This little village of less then 2,000 people has totally "owned" this festival. Every year it gets a little bigger. To the best of my knowledge this is the first year they have had daily "name" entertainment.Garrison ND is a ways off the beaten path, it's even several miles from "The Path" but they have made this work because they have really worked together as a community. If you should find yourself in the area or if you are new to Minot or Bismarck it is worth it to find your way to Garrison ND. 11/11/2022

12 Miles & Butte ND Butte ND is a little community of about 100 people. Once a teeming metropolis of close to 700. The school above closed years ago as did the elevator and several of the many churches around town (I counted 7 church buildings). The following pics are from in Butte ND and the 12 mile road to Russo ND, even more of a ghost town than Butte ND. The sign below for Kongsberg ND refers to a town that as I understand it has a population of 1. When I Googled Kongsberg I was fascinated by the history I found and the ensuing on line reunion of folks with roots to Kongsberg.            09/07/2015

For Many Years This Was North Dakota's Tallest Building. It's Taller Then The State Capital. The picture is a bit deceptive. This is the Garrison Dam intake structure and it is 249 feet tall (taller then the 18 story ND State Capital Building). Obviously the bulk of the structure is under water. I've taken several other pictures for you but you can see more by Googling Garrison Dam. Check out this link to their brochure as well: Garrison Dam Before moving to this part of the State I'd seen some pityful little broken down water control projects by the US Corps of Engineers and mentally likened them to the cub scouts. Having spent some time walking the dam and touring the power house, spillway pound, and the fish hatchery made me realize they are a notch or two above cub scouting. 04/14/2011
