Many residents of South Central Minot are stumped at what is happening at Roosevelt Park and the Roosevelt Park Zoo.The short, unsatisfying, answer is flood mitigation. On June 22nd 2011 Minot was flooded by the worst flood in it's recorded history. I'd love to tell you the whole story as it is an amazing tale of government incompetence that involves both Canada and the USA.The wholesale slaughter of 100+ year old trees falls under flood mitigation BUT the whole/true story equally involves the Roosevelt Park Zoo (which falls under the Minot Park District).Roosevelt Park is Minot's second largest park and the only park in South Central Minot. The short story here is that Minot's South central residents are going to lose more then half of their park as once all these wonderful trees have ...

Over the past 4 years I've written several posts about the collegiate baseball team that plays across the street from my home, The Sabre Dogs.We have really enjoyed having the Sabre Dogs as our neighbors and we are hopeful that another collegiate league will come in behind them. Last year the Sabre Dogs won top spot for their league and it looks really good for them this year and we wish the best for them.

I brought my camera along on my evening walk tonight and decided I'd take a few shots of some of the neighborhood homes.        The two shots above were taken in my yard. The ghost and pumpkin are being projected by a heavy duty projector I picked up at a thrift store. The house on the left was scary because that light up in the window is a Eagles fan sign. The house on the right is a daycare and they usually have a yard full of decorations no matter what the season. What I liked about the one above was the lightning on the right. It changed regularly and was very realistic.

More of my flowers are blooming and we now have a very frequent visitor. This stunning red flower to the right and the ones below seem to be perennials and and their foliage has the appearance similar to that of a lily but these beautiful blooms are the size of a dime.     Another tiny flower in my yard was planted by me (seeds in a pot) just to see if it would grow. I had accumulated a fairly large stash of free seeds from Banks and others that hand them out as advertising. This is of course Babies Breath. I mistakenly thought as they grew they would droop down, kind of like a vine. Then my plan was to hang the basket. Good plan except I had no idea what I was planting. And next our new, frequent visitor. I live pretty close to dead center in a community of about 50,000. We are used to se...

The Woodside Addition in South Minot is one of Minot's newest and most sought after additions in Minot (Often called "The New Country Club Addition because of it's close proximity to the New Minot Country Club). This home is just two blocks away from John Hoeven Elementary School (Minot's newest elementary school) so your little ones will have a safe, short trip to school. The split foyer design gives you a large open floor plan upstairs letting guests and hosts visit between the kitchen, dining, living room and even the wonderful upper level deck that overlooks the neighborhood. Also on the upper level is a very large Master Suit with FULL Bath, a guest room, and another full Bath. The lower level has walk-out sliding glass doors to the patio and again, your guests can easily converse ...

Once you see these in your garden it won't be long before you will be looking for friends and relatives to give your zucchini and summer squash away to. Can you tell which plant is which from these two blooms? They both have large yellow blooms and large leaves. The one on the left is a Summer Squash and the one on the right is a Zucchini.
