To say I was scared is an exaggeration.  To all sellers of tenant occupied properties, you should know I tried to show your house but your tenants made it impossible. The showing instructions were 24 hour advance notice, knock and show.  I’d shown seven houses near downtown Waynesville. One property had tenants who would be notified and leave the house unlocked. I called the agency to verify and was told there hadn't been a return call from the tenants but not to worry. Just knock first.  We pulled up at the appointed time, my clients waited in the car until I could speak with any tenants who might be there. There was a car in the driveway so I knocked loudly several times. Finally, I opened the door and called inside. The young man standing right inside the door startled the daylight... 09/22/2011

We are so lucky to live near the Great Smoky Mountains National Park.  One of our favorite entrances is through Cataloochee Valley just outside of Waynesville.  One can feel the history when in this valley.  Close your eyes and its easy to imagine families traveling by horse and buggy to church or to school.  The walls of the old preserved houses must possess some very special stories.  Early mornings and early evenings are especially popular times to visit the park.  Several years ago, elk were reintroduced to the park and will congregate along the main road and in the old meadows for feeding.  We've been there when there were more than 50 elk in one meadow.  They are truly an inspiring sight.   Barn overlooking huge meadow.                 Clarks Chapel     Schoolhouse     Palmer Hous... 09/12/2011

So, showing homes to a client in their price range and nothing "good" enough for the husband. But he wants the house to be move-in ready, all up-dates done, no painting, doesn't want to have to do anything. Plus he wants to be in good neighborhood within 20 minutes to his work.  Better put, a $300,000+ house within their 130,000 budget.  Did I mention this is my daughter and her husband? My husband built our last two homes and she can see the potiential of the homes that they can afford but all he can see is not good enough.  I am about to scream! Waynesville, North Carolina (located in Haywood County) is a perfect location for festivals of all kinds.  I think of Waynesville as a town of whimsy.  Not only is there a vibrant community of artisans, but due to an admirable cooperative effort between merchants and landlords, Main Street is an interesting and captivating walking district.   Last week, Waynesville played host to the Folkmoot USA festival which they've done for 28 years.  Dancers and musicians travel to this mountain town and perform in venues all over Western North Carolina.  We visited Waynesville on the last day of the week-long event.  Even though the temperature was in the 90s, the dancers were decked out in colorful long dresses and still managed to look cool and comfortable, far more so than the spectators!      ... 08/03/2011

School starts again soon, it's time to pay attention to school crossing zones.  With all the budget cuts the school districts are trying to juggle, there may not be enough money to hire crossing guards.  Waynesville, North Carolina may have found the answer...arming small children with axes.   I saw this sign on Main Street in Waynesville a couple of months ago.  I almost caused a collision turning around to get the photo, afraid someone would paint over the axe, but guess there's no money in the budget for taking care of grafitti!   So, interpret them as you will  but pay attention to the school crossing zones and avoid axe wielding children at all costs. 07/31/2011

After walking the dogs in the rain this morning, I started thinking about a couple of the comments to my previous blog about my grandmother.  Which led to thinking that with the obvious consideration that goes into some people's comments, they are probably great realtor's (still looking for some help to insert the little circled "r" after realtor).
