Wake Forest NC has some OUTSTANDING programs available for both Youths and Adults whether it be athletics, recreational or educational.  In addition to those programs there are some much anticipated One Day Workshops available in September. Jewelry Creations Workshop(ages 8-13) This workshop will teach how to create many different accessories from clay beads, crystals, silk flowers and more.  Create your very own jewelry box to take home your treasures!  The instructor for the workshop is Ronda Felton and the fee is $30.00 which includes materials.  The location for the workshop is Flaherty Park Community Center and will be help on September 20 from 10am - 12:30pm. The hurricane season is in full swing and I just dread the next few hours (days) for my family and friends in Florida.  That would be Mom, Dad, my brother Chris, a tremendous number of friends including a great friend Gail MacMillan.  While this storm may not be catastrophic it is worth repeating that you should be prepared for all storms no matter how big or small. The Christmas Parade in downtown Historic Wake Forest had a record number of entries last year - believe me - IT WAS FANTASTIC!  The weather was great, the crowds were plentiful and the entertainment was some of the best I have ever seen!  The DRC (Downtown Revitalization Committee) is currently accepting applications for the 2008 parade!  There are entry forms for Floats, Commercial Businesses, General Entries, Youth/Civic Organizations and Youth/Athletic Organizations.  You better hurry this year!  The entires will be capped!  The deadline for your entry is October 31, 2008.  Also, be sure to check out the Parade Rules for the exact route, rules and staging areas.  This years parade will be on December 13th at 1:00pm. I purchased today the most amazing book detailing the history of Wake Forest NC and the surrounding areas.  Although I read the book once I ended up reading it AGAIN as something new was learned with each turn of the page.  The book begins with a thorough introduction of how Wake Forest came about, where the name came from, the earliest residents and how we have cycled through many phases in our last 100 years.  What was most exciting for me was to be able to walk downtown this morning and afternoon looking at the pictures in the book while matching the current buildings with their history.  One note of trivia that really fascinated me was as you walk down White Street in Wake Forest you will notice that one side of the street has gas meters on the fronts of the buildings.  (the buildin... 08/07/2008

Driving around Wake Forest you can't help but notice all the signs celebrating the Wake Forest Centential. It is pretty exciting times in my home town. When purchasing a historic property, whether commercial or residential, it is important to seek out those that are well versed in the nuances of Historic Properties. For instance, when the time comes to have your Historic Property inspected you will need to find an inspector that is familiar with the all the variations and uniqueness that is present.  A historic property present a set of issues that will need specialized attention.  Different materials were used when the property was built, different designs were present at the time, and building methods were different.  If would be confusing to have an inspector NOT acquainted with those details have a report full of issues simply because they didn't know better.
