Iredell County is going pink!  This month over 300 women from Statesville and surrounding areas will come together with Iredell County Habitat for Humanity and begin a home for area resident Lillian Dye.  It was my honor to be a board member for the past three years and board president last year of the board of Iredell County Habitat. The affiliate worked hard to purchase nearly 10 acres of land for the first multi-home subdivision for this affiliate.  The newly developed Fourth Creek Village is ready for the first homes to be built on the 15 available lots.  Three homes will be started this month, one of which will be Women Build Home. The Leadership Statesville Class of 2009 is scheduled to contribute a community park area for the residents and one of the local Eagle Scouts will be ...

Remember one thing, 'the older the violin, the sweeter the music' Hello Readers, I've been in the business quite sometime now.  And I have strived to be a Realtor people would want to use and I have been successful enough.  However,  I am going to step back and look at things a little differently.  I want to look at choosing a Realtor through the customers point of view. CLIENT1) Customer vs Client          That is the #1 thing I want to know going into this.  As a person choosing a Realtor, I need to know am I a customer or a client?  When I sit down to interview you, or when I call you and talk to you on the phone what is my status with you?  When do you start working for me?  REALTOR       I start working for you when we sign the paperwork.  Until then you are a customer.  If you ar...

Local radio stations, like WSICweb.com, are a great way to find out what is going on in the area and a great way to get to know the locals.  Before you complete your move to an area like Statesville, NC you may want to google the local radio stations around and tune in for a few days to find out what is going on in town. For instance, every morning Monday - Friday, from 9am - 11 am they have the Home Ad show where residents call in with items they have for sale, etc.  You can find some real bargains here and actually hear who some of the residents are, who knows you may hear someone you already know.  Every Wednesday morning at 8 am, the local pharmacists, Fred Lowry, Jr. with Lowry Drug Company airs with Billy Buck to bring you up to date information about current medications, illness...

On January 22, 2009, Residents from Statesville and Iredell County gathered at the Statesville Civic Center to offer their ideas on what the new "gateway" to Statesville should look like.  The area is a major travel way into Statesville from Mooresville and Troutman and the many would like to see a more attractive first impression to visitors and residents.  There were many original and creative ideas talked about at the Civic Center with community leaders of the City of Statesville and the Downtown Statesville Development Corporation.  You can read the entire article from the Statesville Record and Landmark at:  City examines Highway 115 corridor's future  What is your impression of this corridor and what improvements would you like to see?  Your opinion counts and City leaders would...

Wonderful changes are coming for downtown Statesville, North Carolina and we the citizens have an excellent opportunity to have our input in this process.      On January 20, 2009, Tuesday from 4 - 7 at the Statesville Civic Center, there will be an open house drop-in for people to walk around and visit 3 topic stations depicting plans and changes shown by maps and visuals.  This is being hosted by LandDesign, and urban design firm hired by the Downtown Master Plan Committe.  They have been working closely with the City of Statesville and the Downtown Statesville Development Corporation to  prepare a Streetscape/Land Use Master Plan for downtown and the Highway 115 corridor district.   Anyone attending can ask questions and give input  on the three different stations, including aestheti...

Moving to any new town can be confusing and a little scary, especially if you are still unsure of the area.  If you have family there and have had the opportunity to get to know your area, then your fears are automatcially decreased.  Statesville, North Carolina is still small enough to not be that scary for people relocating to our area.  The roads are easy to figure out and we have two major interstates that run through the area.  Reading the local newspaper, Statesville Record and Landmark, can help you discover many interesting things, yet many still have questions.  I receive a lot of these questions and thought I would share the answers with you.   The Top 5 Questions I usually get from people are: 1)  What is the industry like here?2)  What are the schools like here?3)  What are ...

Iredell Statesville Schools will soon be opening  Cloverleaf Elementary, K-5 on the corner of James Farm Road and Glenway Drive, two minutes from I40 in Statesville, NC.   I have been watching this school go up since it started construction last spring.  It is on my way to the Wal-Mart shopping center at exit 150 off I40.  This school will be replacing Northview Elementary and Ebenezer Elementary.  It is going to open this fall of 2009.  Here are some interesting facts for you. 1)  This is a magnate school.  Applications are being taken until the end of March for enrollment.  2)  This is a science, math and technological school.  There will be interactive boards in each room.  There will be active science labs with each child getting a 45 minute session each week.  This will be complet...

Are you ready to visit Statesville, North Carolina?  Do you need a place to stay, but aren't sure you really want to stay in a hotel?  Then here is a little tip for you.   Lady Jane's Bed and Breakfast is awesome!   This 'mansion' sits in the country just five minutes from Interstate 40 and is the most comportable B & B I have found in town.  Staying here is like living in a fairy tale.  The grounds have walking trials, a koi pond and lots of greenery and privacy.  It's like living on your own private estate.  Did I mention the food?  Oh my word, you won't want to leave after eating the special breakfasts served here and you will definitely come back for lunch and dinner.  Then you can relax on the verandas while catching a glimpse of the wildlife.  I don't want to give away too much i...

Yeah Boy, now that's what I'm talking about!   James Franco in Statesville, NC eating dinner at Carolina Bar-B-Q  Friday night, January 2, 2009.   (By the way, that lady is not me, but a waitress at the restaurant.)  I was sitting watching TV when my son called me to let me know that Mr. Franco was sitting inside Carolina Bar-B-Q.  I told him to get a pic and an autograph.    So here it is.  For those of you who do not know, James Franco starred as Harry Osborn in the Spider Man movies.  He is also known for Freaks and Geeks.  He is a very nice young man and very gracious to let himself be disturbed after dining for a picture with his fans.  Thank you Mr. Franco for your kindness. By the way, I have no idea why he is in town, but hope he enjoys it here.   Also, Carolina Bar-B-Q is one ...

I realize this is not the best pic in the world, but if you could see this Statesville home in person you would be very impressed with the colors and detail work.   This beautiful home sits on a corner street in the Historic District of downtown Statesville.   I watched this home being renovated over a period of time and saw an absolutely amazing transformation.   Perhaps this is one more reason why I like living in Statesville.  Since I have been here the last 17 years I have seen the residents take great care of the older buildings around town and keep a clean and friendly atmosphere of the downtown area.  This is just one of the houses to view on a personal walking tour of the historic homes in Statesville, North Carolina.    As you are walking around the blocks you will be awed by ...

Just look at the size of that foot!  The one on the right, that is!   She's big, (17h) she's dirty, but she's beautiful.   At least, to me she is.  This is my 'other job'.  Training horses.  When I'm not selling real estate in Statesville, or Mooresville, or even recently, in Huntersville or Cornelius, then you can find me at home on a horse.   Which actually, amounts to about once a week.  I raise them, I train them, I ride them and I drive them.  All 'makes and models', from quarter horses, to appaloosas, tennessee walking horses, arabians, minis, and recently this percheron.    Who I aptly named Tinker Bell.   She is bigger than anything else we have on the farm and I have a lot of fun with her.  This is my down time and my passion.  I also give riding lessons to children or adults ...

Oh my gosh! It was 18 degrees this morning when I got up at 6:30 am.  It felt sooooo good to have dry weather, the sun shining and no wind!  It was 62 degrees Saturday, but foggy, rainy and just depressing!  I'll take 18, sunny and dry any day!  But I didn't blog today to talk about the weather.  I want to tell you why Statesville, NC is the place to be. 1)  We have good schools.    For more information go to:   http://iss.schoolwires.com 2)  We have a great downtown with something always going on.  As a matter of fact, I think we have one of the best Chamber of Commerces around.  Check out the calendar for the chamber at www.statesvillechamber.org 3)  We have two of the three hospitals in Iredell County, both conventiently located right off the interstates.   www.iredellmemorial.org.  ...

I checked it out.  I went to the Second Fret last night arount 9:00 o'clock.  My husband's office Christmas party was last night and as soon as we were able to leave we headed on downtown to the Second Fret.  I have to say I was really impressed.  Mel Jones and his Bag of Bones was there playing.  He is a local boy from Davie County just next door to us here in Iredell County (for those of you who don't know the area).  He was entertaining to say the least.  I'd call it Blue Grass with a twist. It was upbeat, funny, engaging and it was music you could dance to.  I would highly recommend going here on Friday and Saturday nights if you are living in or around Statesville or just visiting.    They have great food too!  Go for lunch or dinner as well as the music. visit:   www.SherryMills.net

How I miss those sunny days when I can get out and ride!!!  This is not really strange weather we are having, but golly I would rather it be cold consistently or just stay the same all year round.  I should move to Hawaii or the south Pacific Islands, Grand Cayman or something rather than complain!  I know, I know.....  we need the rain and this is typical for North Carolina.  Warm one day and cold the next.  It sure makes it tough to get motivated to get out do my Christmas shopping.  So, here is my remedy!  I am going to think positive thoughts and go out to visit with friends.  This Friday I plan on going downtown to the Second Fret where there will be music and lots of people enjoying the evening.  I can have dinner, a few drinks, relax and forget about the weather.  Many of my frie...
