Statesville, NC - Information and Links January 1789, Statesville was founded by an act of the General Assembly after North Carolina joined the United States. While the history of Statesville is vague, it is believed to be originally named "the states vil".  The first courthouse was constructed in 1790 and built on a lot purchased from Fergus Sloan next to the Fourth Creek Presbyterian Meeting house, an area most of us have come to call "the square". Lots around the courthouse were sold at public auction for other business, thus beginning downtown Statesville.  Two miles north of Statesville was Fort Dobbs. The fort was to defend the forefront of civilization from 1756 to approximately 1764.  Statesville was considered to be the center of the district of the Revolutionary War. In 1847 ...

One of the most important things when selling a house is the view they see when they drive by or arrive for a showing.  Check out the BEFORE and AFTER pictures of this wonderful that is listed for sale. BEFORE   AFTER Kill mold and mildew on the house, sidewalks, roof, or driveway.   Stow away unnecessary garden implements and tools.   Clean windows and gutters.   Pressure wash dirty siding and dingy decks.           They came out in droves and filled the streets for the first "Friday after Five"  celebration sponsored by Peidmont Healtcare.  The weather was perfect and the music made you want to kick off your shoes and tap your toes!  The west end of Broad Street was closed off to cars around 3:00 to make way for the expected crowd and set up.  A large stage was set on the end for Sammy O'Banion and Mardi Gras to entertain the crowd, tents were set up along the sides for the food and fun.  Hot dogs and Hamburgers were served by the local boys scouts, beer and wine for the adults, and animal balloons and face painting for the young at heart.              Local volunteers also manned a tent to sell t-shirts and magnets for the "All American City" fundraiser.  They were there to raise money ...

I recently have had the pleasure of my 77 year old mom visiting with me in Statesville, North Carolina.  She loves outdoor activities.  So her first day here I took her to Pilot Mountain.  We had a beautiful clear day and we could see for miles away. Pilot Mountain is about an hour and a half away from Statesville, North Carolina straight up interstate 77 then east on Highway 73.  Not too far from Mt. Airy, North Carolina.  Most of us are familiar with Pilot Mtn from the Andy Griffith Show, the are more commonly known as Mount Pilot.   Trails range from easy to strenuous with many overlooks.  For more information about this great recreational area, please visit:   http://www.ncparks.gov/Visit/parks/pimo/main.php www.SherryMills.netwww.SherryMills.bizwww.BuyStatesvilleHomes.com

HICKS WATERSTOVES &SOLAR SYSTEMS 2649 South Main StreetMount Airy, NC 27030   Energy costs go up at rapid rates.  Just between 2004 and 2008, natural gas costs went up 25% each year!  Converting your energy usage to geothermal heat pumps, solar panels or waterstoves can help reduce your energy costs anywhere from 30% to 75% every year.  A local manufacturer of waterstoves, Hicks WaterStoves and Solar Systems, has been in the business for 40 years.   Their website is www.HicksWaterStoves.com.  This is an excellent way to make use of natural resources for heating without the excessive costs involved in propane, natural gas or electricty.  Another good product name is Central Boilers.   They can be found at www.CentralBoilers.com.  The basic c...

Bi-Lo grocery store and Food Lion, are just a few places to shop for natural and healty food in Statesville, NC.  Our most recent places to shop for natural and healthy food in the past found people driving the distance to Winston-Salem or Davidson to visit health food grocery stores.   Now all you have to do is shop around the corner.  I find Bi-Lo and Food Lion to be two of my favorite places to shop for the convenience, cleanliness of the store and friendly employees.   Nearly everytime I walk into these places, I see the managers, who I know by name now.  They always smile, say hello and many times strike up a conversation.  The stores are well stocked making shopping quick, easy and efficient.                                                                                         ...

A little known gem is just around the corner here in our fair city of Statesville, North Carolina.  A wonderful restaurant called Chopstix.  I had never eaten Thai food before, but loved it the first time I tried it.  Now I go there all the time.  It is wonderful and I am always very quickly served.  The owner is a very nice man and always has a smile and a warm hello for the customers.  Chopstix is located in the Brookdale Shopping Center on the corner of Davie Avenue and Sullivan Road.  It is just across from the Food Lion and there is plenty of parking.  There are several items on the menu to choose from.   Unfortunately, I don't have a menu for you, but you will find you have many choices and all are worth trying.  Chopstix is located at:  925 Davie Avenue,  just call:  704-872-5200...
