Thank God for the Rain... WE needed it so much.  It has rained for two days now and we are blessed to have it.  The gardens were drying up and the crops were going away.  I think that this rain saved much of our garden and we are very Thankful.  Now we can can the veggies needed for the Winter. Wow.... After needing rain for over a week.....the cats and dogs are falling... I am watching a program about Hurricane Katrina, on the Weather Channel.  I was absolutely astounded and what I saw.   There was so much of a lack of response to help those folks that were stranded in New Orleans.  They were desperate for food, water and shelter.  I can not imagine what they experienced. It has been a long time since we have missed church on Sunday and taking the grandchildren with us. Today...eveyone had something else to do...so we are going to spend the afternoon in the Kayaks in the creek.  We have only done this a couple of times..but feel that it is necessary to get out into God's gifts to us.  We will sing some hymns and pray...but on the creek,not in church..today. Love that song.  Used to sing it a  lot.  But  today is a rejuvenating day for me.  I have just enjoyed the day.  Not doing anything that I don't have today.  Although I may need to can tomatoes tonight.  But basically, I am having a day off. The only thing that i have to do later in the day...is to go to the dock with Jimmy and see the sun set!  and  I do plan to do that. At this moment, my husband is in the neighbors yard, (at Neighbor's request) picking figs so that we can do some fig preserve canning tonight. Wow...am I excited! Worked all day. Yesterday we traveled to Durham to visit with Jimmy's Mom.  She is now 92 years old and doing very well for 92 years of age.   She is very sharp and still calls the shots.  WE are so glad that she continues to do well. At 92, and being the publisher of the State Port Pilot, she is very much in her control.   She is a wonderful person with whom I have a lot of respect.  I pray that my days at 92 are as good as hers. I am in the process of short selling a house that I have had listed for 3 months.  The sellers owe  about 215K on it and there is a 2nd on it too. I am so working with both banks and they want me to get an offer in  for 175K. Both of these banks are going to be taking substantial losses. This is not feel very comfortable to me. This was a glorious day in Southport NC.  My Grandchildren Clay and Jonah are feeding the Gulls.  This is on the waterfront in Southport in  Waterfront Park.  These two young men, are my grandsons, Clay Harper Tuttle and Jonah Foster Gouger. It was a special day.  It was the 90th Birthday for my Mother In Law, Margaret Taylor Harper.  WE had  many friends and family to join us in the celebration  of her birthay. I have a sibling who served in Vietnam, father who was wounded in the South Pacific, grandmother at Pearl Harbor on Dec. 7th, great, great, great grandfather and his sons who fought in the War Between the States ... one who died from wounds received in the Battle of Bull Run (Manassas for you northerners!) and on and on and on. Well, it's over. All of the food has been eaten, all of the games have been played, and all of the fireworks have been seen. Southport has finally returned to its normal, calm, mellow self again. Our Fourth this year, as with every year previous, began on the 2nd, when I'd say the majority of the family came down to celebrate our nation's independence with us, and ended at 9:15 on the 4th, after the fireworks. We spent our three days sitting on the porch, enjoying each other's company, catching up on each other's news, and just being happy with what we have. The 4th of July brings our distant family members close again, and it reminds us that we're happiest when we're together.   It has been a wonderful 4th.  Thanks Kathleen... We really enjoyed the N C Fourth of July fireworks display in Southport last night. To make it even better was our successful footrace to our cars and hitting the side streets, making it out of town, over the Intracoastal Waterway bridge, onto Oak Island then home in 20 minutes, no kidding! 07/05/2009

We have had a most awesome 4th with Family and Friends.... Starting out this morning at 8:30...taking food from home over to my mother in laws.. Parade started at 11:00 Cooking ham, boiling potatoes for Potato salad, baked beans, stewed squash and onions, fresh tomatoes from the garden, cucumber and vinegar, barbecue, cantaloupe, blueberry crunch, cake, tea, lemonade...for beginners.. Then...performing with the SeaNotes choral society at 3:00. Back to the front porch..to watch the entertainment and to dance and sing along. Fireworks began at 9:00.. Need some advice.  It is just not happening  here in our area.  Our inventory  is so high....the choices are so many.  It is like being in a candy store with a pocket full of coins.  Buyer are having a hard time making a decision.
