If you live in the Sandhills of North Carolina in or around Pinehurst, Southern Pines or Whispering Pines, you can celebrate New Years with your entire family and still get home long before midnite.  In downtown Southern Pines on New Years Eve, there's a celebration called "First Eve".  There is entertainment for all ages starting at 6 pm.  At around 8, there's a pretend New Year's - after all, it's midnite somewhere!!  I am looking forward to being able to celebrate with my whole family.  It is great to live in a place where the town and residents support an event like this one. Southern Pines NC has a lot of holiday events that are fun for the whole family.  Three biggest events are: 1. The Southern Pines Christmas Parade.  The Parade takes place on the first weekend in December.  Broad Street is blocked off and the sidewalks fill up quickly before floats, antique cars bands and civic groups make the annual march through town.  Santa is there for the kids.  The shops and restaurants in town are of course open all day, so you can get a lot of shopping done. 2. According to a report from the Office of Federal Housing Enterprise Oversight, North Carolina values continued in a slight upward trend.  NC was tied for fourth in appreciation in 4-quarter appreciation in a recent study, ending with Q2 of 2008. With appreciation expressed in either positive or negative numbers, North Carolina came in at a positive 3.6%.  Only Oklahoma, Wyoming and South Dakota came in higher.  The national average was a negative number, -1.7%.  Negatives were led by (no surprise here) California,  Nevada, and Florida, all in double digits.  It's not too much of a surprise--the high negatives in those states, the slight positives in the vast majority of states.  We all know there was a lot more air to come out of those bubbles.  While our values in NC marched slowly but...

Longleaf, just a short drive west of the Village of Pinehurst, is a popular golf community in Southern Pines, NC.  Longleaf is located next to Talamore and right across the street from the Mid South Club off Midland Road in Southern Pines. The course and community was built on the site of one of Pinehurst's former horse training estates. This heritage has been nicely incorporated into the course layout. The October Newsletter is uploaded and ready to go!!  Please check it out!!
