While doing my errands today, I stopped at one of the local Southern Pines Christmas tree lots. One of the best parts of Christmas is choosing your tree.  As most towns, Southern Pines and Pinehurst have several street corner lots with Christmas trees for sale. If you don't have a near by farm to cut down your own tree, this is the next best thing. Southern Pines is no different and has several Christmas tree lots.  This is one of the local favorites located off route 1, just south of Southern Pines in the "Big Lots" parking lot. 11/28/2010

The Joy of Christmas at the Weymouth Center in Southern Pines, NC is an annual event. The event begins December 1st and runs through December 4th at the Weymouth Center for Arts and Humanities, a non-profit organization. The center is located at 555 E. Connecticut St. in Southern Pines.  23 Rooms will be decorated for Christmas and enriched with music and there are several events that will be held during the open house period. Picking up my son at the airport today in Raleigh to bring him home so the Southern Pines, Pinehurst area of NC. It's not a bad ride, only about an hour from my office in Southern Pines. He's been in college since August, and it is going to be great seeing him, even for only a few days. We're heading to the beach to have Thanksgiving with some friends. I've never been to Bald Head Island before, and I'm really looking forward to it. Because it's been such a challenging market, I haven't taken any time off lately, so this is a welcome break in my schedule. Thanks to my dad for watching my dogs while I'm gone. Last week I wrote about a Southern Pines Restaurant, and I gave my opinion on the service and food. I had a very good experience with both. I'm very excited that I got my first consumer comment on my blog. It happened to be the post about this restaurant. Apparently, the consumer did not have the same experience, and gave the restaurant very low marks. I just wanted to say that I'm not trying to be a restaurant critic, I'm just trying to get out some of the things to do in Southern Pines and the Pinehurst areas. Please accept my apology if I led you astray. I'm not out to promote the business in the area, just educate others what is available. The Chili Cookoff in Downtown Southern Pines last Saturday was a success!!!                                     A special 'Thanks' to O'Donnells Pub for organizing this event!  The Winners were:  - Jake's Farmer's Market Restaurant (new restaurant in downtown Southern Pines, haven't been there yet).  Their chili was good, several different types of beans and it was sweet not spicy. - Will A Way - an individual contestant.  I didn't get to taste theirs.....they ran out!  It must've been good. - Corfu Greek Restaurant - This restaurant has the best Gyro's around these parts.  There lamb chili was awesome!!! I have to also plug Maxie's Grill & Taproom of Pinehurst.  Their White Chicken Chili was my personal favorite.  YUMMY!!!  I hope it's on the menu next time I go there to eat.   11/17/2010

Not all the real estate in Southern Pines are horse farms, but from many outside the area, that is what it is know for.  These two lovely horses live on a beautiful horse farm on Young's road where you find a string of very high end horse properties. Currently, in Southern Pines, there are 13 horse farms for sale, and one is pending a sale. All of the horse farms that are sought after are directly in the town of Southern Pines. The greater area for search for horse farms had been given the name "Horse Country". So when searching for horse farms, keep in mind to include all of horse country, not just Southern Pines real estate. 11/16/2010

Now this is a great idea!!! - The American Red Cross is offering a program in Babysitter Training on Nov 24 at the Douglass Community Center in Southern Pines.  The program is open for ages 11 and above who are interested in babysitting.  The program will cover things like how to handle an emergency, what's safe for kids and what is not, basic first aid and much more.  This really is an awesome idea - but enrollment is limited so get your kids signed up if you are interested.  The fee is $40, but it's surely worth the investment.  Everyone involved will benefit on so many levels - the babysitters, the parents and the kids.  For more info, contact the Southern Pines Parks & Recreation Department at 910-692-2463.
