What Are Points and When Should You Pay Them? Points are up-front fees paid by the borrower to obtain a better interest rate on a loan. One point equals one percent of the loan amount. And while a lower interest rate may result in a lower monthly payment, it is important to consider how long you intend to be in the loan and to compare current interest rates to historical market trends. This will help you to determine whether paying points is a worthwhile investment. Let's look at a sample scenario. If you take out a $300,000 mortgage and decide to pay one point in order to lower your interest rate, this would translate into an up-front cost of $3,000. Raleigh Real Estate - Good Deals do exist.This weekend I was busy showing properities. I must have shown 50 properties between Thursday and Sunday. I showed properties all around Raleigh. (Fuquay Varina, Apex, Cary, Raleigh, North Raleigh, Middlesex, Asheboro, Clemmons, Winston-Salem, Wake Forest, Knightdale, Youngsville, and Bunn)I saw a few nice Raleigh real estate properties. I saw some great Raleigh neighborhoods.I also found some Raleigh area homes that need a hug. One of my favorite places to go when I want to be with nature is right here in my own hometown!! Umstead Park - Many people that visit the area are completely surprised that we have a resource like Umstead Park right in the middle of the city.  The Park is centrally located between the airport and situated between Cary and Raleigh.
