Carolinas Medical Center recently announced plans to expand the Pineville branch of its sprawling medical centers in Charlotte, North Carolina.  The center was recently expanded to house a new medical office tower and parking deck. The new expansion, which will be completed in 2013, will be the hospital's largest construction project, according to a press release submitted by Carolinas Medical Center.  This expansion is part of a plan to turn what used to be Mercy Hospital South into a major tertiary care center.  A tertiary care center houses specialied doctors who take patients referred by their primary doctors.  So, if you have a heart problem, you won't have to go all the way to uptown Charlotte to see the heart specialist. Area stats among nation's best", columnist Allen Norwood brings out some very interesting details.
