I don't know too many homeowners in the Pinehurst Area that don't love watching the birds and love having feeders and bird houses to attract their favorite variety. Pinehurst Yellow Finches There is such a variety of birds in the Pinehurst area that it becomes the hobby of many to watch and feed the different species in our area. I know many people that have feeders to attract specific birds and houses for certain varieties to nest in. I am more of a generic bird watcher and just enjoy seeing all the different species, specifically the cardinal and the yellow finch. Real estate sales for Pinehurst NC area for March 2011 were flat compared to the same time last year though there was a significant increase from February this year.   Pinehurst Area Sales Chart The number of homes sold in March of this year were slightly below the same period in 2010 - however the average price was up slightly giving an almost flat differentiation year over year. The average price of homes was up slightly due to an increase in the number of higher end homes selling. This is a good sign as the higher end homes in the Pinehurst area have not been selling for quite some time. Inventory levels are still high which could mean we still have some downward pressure in pricing until we can sell and reduce the number of available properties. If you are in Maine or somewhere in the north you maybe wishing for Spring. Here in Pinehurst we are seeing my favorite trees in full bloom - the Dogwoods. My last blog I wrote about the Opening of Pinehurst No. 2 after the restoration and mentioned that the dogwoods were in bloom. I felt it best I should also share a photo of my favorite spring trees in bloom. This setting is beside the drive up to the Pinehurst Country Club next to the tennis courts. It was a great day to get out and enjoy the spring trees and tulips which are scattered all over the Village. If you don't already live in Pinehurst - the months of March and April will usually offer some warm temperatures and some beautiful spring flowers. If you are a golfer you have probably heard of Pinehurst's most well known course No.2  - and it has a new look. Today was a perfect day in Pinehurst to get out and play the newly famous Pinehurst No. 2 golf course. Temperatures were in the 60's and the dogwood trees were blooming all over. A friend of mine is an avid golfer and she recently played No. 2 since it reopened a few weeks ago. She really liked it and had nothing but praise for how the course played and for the new look. Basically there is no rough. There fairways end on the sides right into the sandy soil and wire grass. Pinehurst No. 2 was host to the Men's US Opens in 1998 and 2005 and will host the Men's and Women's US Opens in 2014 in June in back to back weeks with the men playing first. Here in Pinehurst area we are seeing sings of spring all around including this gated lake community 10 minutes from Pinehurst. This is the entrance to the community center for the gated community of Seven Lakes West just a few minutes from the beautiful Village of Pinehurst. This picture was taken last week when the cherry trees were in full bloom. It has been a lovely spring so far with all the flowering trees and shrubs blooming earlier than normal. Recently I wrote a blog post about a lake front home in Seven Lakes West. There are lake front homes, golf front homes, equestrian homes and homes on interior lots at very affordable prices.   After the recession one of things we were missing in Pinehurst was the lack of new construction - and we are now seeing  some signs of economic recovery and growth with some new commercial construction projects. I'm sure many areas have experienced similar conditions. Even though Pinehurst suffered as did other areas with the economic slow down - it didn't seem as bad as what the reports were from some other areas of the country. Friday while running errands it struck me how we are seeing an  increase in construction - It especially struck me  that two new large chain restaurants are being built less than 1/2 mile from each other.
