I recycle EVERYTHING possible!  Several months ago my Mom was visiting us here in Pinehurst and she threw the empty toilet paper roll in the trash can.....YIKES!!! My question to Mom was:  "Don't you recycle?"  She gives me a look of confusion while she stares at my right-hand which is holding up the empty toilet paper roll.  She replys slowly:  "Yeeessss?"  So, I ask her:  "Then why did you throw the empty toilet paper roll in the trash and not the recycle bin?" Well, in the end we got a good giggle out of the conversation and the empty toilet paper roll made it's way to the recycle bin.  I was reminded of this 'toilet paper roll' conversation when I was visiting my Mom at her house a few weeks ago.  I was putting a few items in her recycle bin, when she piped up and said very proudly,...

Cooler weather is on the way this weekend.  A sure sign of fall weather and the holiday season!!!  This past weekend I took a drive up Hwy 15-501 just North of Pinehurst in search of a pumpkin and some gourds for my fall display by my front door.  There is a great little 'Pumpkin Patch' located right on Hwy 15-501...you can't miss it.  Just look for the signs on the side of the highway.  The farm house & sales area is on the North side of the road and the pumpkin patch on the South side. They have some really 'BIG' ones, too!!! It was such a beautiful day, so after stopping at the Pumpkin Patch, I continued to drive North and stopped in at Jackson Bros. Produce stand in Tramway(20 minutes outside of Pinehurst) to pickup some veggies and gourds.  This place is AWESOME!!!  They have some ...

My Rain Barrel is FULL!...Yeah!  But, My Roof Is Leaking!...Oh No! It is a ‘bad' sign when I tap out my rain barrel.  I don't even know how many gallons of water it holds, but I know it takes me a very long time to use all the water that it contains when it is full. I used the last of the water in the barrel last Thursday before I left town for the weekend.  It has been terribly hot and dry here in the Sandhills and the rain that passed through this weekend was much needed. When I got back into town yesterday, I knew we had a really good rainfall over the weekend because my rain barrel was FULL!!!!  I awoke to more rainfall this morning, stumbled into my closet for my robe and the carpet was damp.  I immediately thought, oh no, my toy poodle (who hates to take care of business in the r...

With interest rates so low and real estate inventory levels for Pinehurst, Southern Pines area of North Carolina so high, why aren't more people buying? Could it be because the investors in the mortgage market don't want to sink their money in with such a low return?  There are some really good buys in our market right now, and I'm surprised we are not seeing more movement.

If you are looking for a new home in Pinehurst NC, there are some amazing financing deals available.  There are still a few "spec homes" on the Pinehurst Real Estate market - spec homes are new homes built by local builders who in turn offer them for sale.  The builders usually get a construction loan from a local bank and the loan is of course paid off when the house sells.  The banks want to help their builder-customers sell these homes, so several local banks now have loan programs that are only available to buyers of houses built by the builder-customers.  In some cases, you can get a new home loan of up to 97% of the purchase price at rates as low as 3.81% - fixed for 10 years.  Homes in this category are available in numerous communities, including Pinehurst gated communities.  Fo...

After several months of year over year growth, we say a dip in the market for July compared to the same time last year in the Pinehurst, Moore County area of NC.  In addition to the decline from last year, the sharp decline from June to July in residential sales in our are was an aberration for this time of year.  Typically we see an increase from June to July or a very slight decrease.  We'll need a few more months to see if the stimulus helped the real estate market.  However, I believe it just pushed buyers to buy sooner, and that the real estate market will rebound on a natural course as it should.

Pinehurst, NC is once again hosting the US Kids World Golf Championship in 2010.  The tournament rounds will be held from August 3 - 8; and will be played at numerous courses in the Pinehurst Area.  The host club is of course the Pinehurst Country Club and kids will play on 3 of the courses at the famed Pinehurst Resort.  It is amazing to see how good the competitors are!  It can be very humbling to watch someone 1/2 your size hit the golf ball so far and with such accuracy.  We are very proud that Pinehurst is once again hosting this wonderful event that draws competitors and their families literally from all over the world.  It's great to see so many families milling around around Pinehurst and Southern Pines enjoying all there is to do when they are not out on one of the local course...

Today in Pinehurst, North Carolina, and the rest of the United States observes American Flag Day, a tribute to our flag, the ideals it stands for and the sacrifices made to preserve them. President Woodrow Wilson recognized during his first Flag Day address in 1915 that the freedoms the U.S. flag stands for weren't and never would be free. The lines of red are lines of blood, nobly and unselfishly shed by men and women who loved liberty more than they loved their own lives and fortunes. Though merely a piece of cloth, our flag represents the lives of thousands of Americans who have given everything for this nation and the ideals we embrace. Please be ever mindful of and honor those who serve and protect our liberty and freedom. For more information about the American Flag go to www.nati...

Pinehurst was lucky to host Vince Gill concert this past Saturday.  Vince and his band played outside at the Pinehurst Arboretum to benefit the First Tee organization.  There were several thousand people in attendance and the thunderstorms held off, making it a beautiful evening.  The show was wonderful and all of us in the area owe Vince and his band a big thanks for coming to the area.  It was a special treat!  It's also another example of the great cultural opportunities we have in the Pinehurst-Southern Pines area.  Stay tuned for other events at the Arboretum - and keep your fingers crossed that Vince Gill will make a return trip!  He was great and I'm sure he's now got a lot of new fans in the Sandhills.  For other cultural opps and events, visit us on the web at: http://www.mcdev...
