What a great place to cycle, light traffic, and nice wooded ride along the Intracoastal Waterway, by the vegetation on the dunes by the ocean, usually find visitors enjoying the island and join up to ride with them.  Hard to get lost on an island!

We call it caravanning.. After each sales meeting we pick between 5 and 10 homes that well all go and see.  Today we had nine home and about 20 of us went around to view and critique each one.  It was very time consuming but I think now, at this time of the year, that is it worth it. The feed back that you receive from the other agents can be used to do something important that the seller may have been dragging their feet on or...get a price reduction. Just thought I would share that with you.   Ginger of Southport

Just when we think we are moving ahead on the "new" bridge to Oak Island, which people have been talking about since at least the 1960's, work stops again, to err on the side of safety.  It seems cracks were noticed in a few of the long beams designed to span quite a distance over the Intracoastal Waterway.  I'll keep you posted, but looks like the completion date keeps getting pushed back!  So....travel to Oak Island from Highway 17, using either Highway 211 or Highway 133, and come on down, walk on the beach, enjoy a swim, eat seafood, and just enjoy our great quality of life!

Before our sales staff meeting this morning I rode 18+ miles on my bicycle. One item that was interesting was the long concrete beams loaded on a barge that is in the Intracoastal Waterway near the new Oak Island Bridge construction site.  It's amazing that these beams are to be lifted in place by the cranes some of which are loaded on barges.  I look forward to seeing progress there every time we ride our bicycles down Yacht Drive.

Today, after lunch...our Greensboro Grandchildren went back home.  We will feel the blues for a couple of days with them not here with us...  fishing, crabbing, netting shrimp, swimming off dock, swimming in the pool and ocean, cooking out....fixing special meals, gardening, canning tomatoes, putt-putting.. It is always a very special time when they are here with us. Ginger of Southport

Today is Sunday and we took 4 of our grandchildren to Church. Katleen 16,  Clay 13, Joshua 3 and Marissa 1... These Children are so very special to us.. After church,  we came home and had a Sunday Dinner that consisted of BBQ Ribs, egg plant  and Onions, Butternut Squash, fresh tomatoes and banana peppers, Potatoes and toasted buttered rolls. For dessert we had peach cobbler. After  resting for a bit, we went to the Ocean and played in the surf for a couple of hours. Nice and relaxing day with the Children. Day for building memories Ginger

It's a bird, it's a plane, no, it's Mega Man! Many children (both boys and girls) dream of becoming superheros when they grow up. They look up to figures such as Batman, Spiderman, and even Elastigirl from "The Incredibles," but my grandson, age 13, achieved his dream today by becoming Mega Man for an hour on Oak Island. My grandson has always been imaginative. Even since the age of three, we've known that whatever he put his mind to, he could do. Well, ten years later, he's decided to become a superhero. Clay's always been an entertainer. He used to put on shows in front of a camera and everyone else. He loves to make people laugh and he truly has a heart of gold. He's also known for being quite crazy. Although not as fearlessly fun-loving as his older sister, Clay will pretty much d...

The Grandchilden are visiting from out of town... Rain is coming down and we can't get out to go to the beach or to the pool. Guess today is a Monoply Day or a Taboo Day. Tonight, we get to put up the pickles that we picked from the garden yesterday.. They will be good in salads this winter. Hope you are enjoying your grandchildren too.   Ginger of Southport

Well, the 4th has come and gone...the grandchildren will be with us for 2 weeks..and we are loving every minute of it. I have had 2 listing appointments and had 1 contract to come in this week...so I gues it is business as usual. This is normally a slow time of the year...but I see some glimmer of hope. Hope you have a great day today. Ginger of Southport

It's a bit overcast today, and not quite as humid.  My fishing friend said that this was a good day for the fish to be biting.  When I asked him if it made a difference whether or not there was a drizzle he pointed out that the fish didn't care because they were already wet.

One of our Own gave the ultimate sacrifice.. Killed in action the week before, the body of Sergeant First Class John C. Beale was returned to Falcon Field in Peachtree City , Georgia , just south of Atlanta , on June 11, 2009 . The Henry County Police Department escorted the procession to the funeral home in McDonough , Georgia . A simple notice in local papers indicated the road route to be taken and the approximate time. Nowadays one can be led to believe that America no longer respects honor and no longer honors sacrifice outside the military. Be it known that there are many places in this land where people still recognize the courage and impact of total self-sacrifice. Georgia remains  one of those graceful places. The link below is a short travelogue of that day's remarkable and p...

My neighbor and I have just started riding bicycles together.  Rode Oak Island about 17 miles total yesterday and enjoyed stopping by my cousin's house on Davis Canal and having an energy and water recharge in the middle of the ride.  My husband went out and rode with the "big boys" about 45 miles total in Brunswick County.  I'm building up my stamina before I rejoin that crowd to ride.  It's really nice to have so many rural paved roads with light traffic to ride.  That particular ride starts at Andrew Cowell's shop on Midway Road, then goes North and finds it way by a series of turns to Kopp's Store in Bolivia for snacks and drinks.  On the way out and on the way in you travel by a goat pasture that is always fun to see what they are doing, usually eating!  Today we're going to ride i...

This summer has been a very slow season for our hummingbirds.  Usually we have them buzzing all around our back deck area.  Is anyone else having the same problem with their hummingbirds?  WE have the  same mixture that is normal for us...so I do not know what the problem is. If you have any hints or ideas, please let me know. Ginger  of Beaver Dam Creek.

Going to the beach over the 4th of July week is a North Carolina tradition that goes back to when all the textile mills (that aren't here anymore!) would close for Vacation Week!  On Oak Island, which used to be Long Beach before it consolidated with the Town of Yaupon Beach was first developed the streets were named after North Carolina towns.  When they ran out of town names they used football mascots.  Eventually, when no one could find their way around they renamed the streets numerically for the most part.   The developer laid out the streets and had four lots 60' frontage each between each street, this with the right of way of 60' gave us 300' from street to street.  Our numbered streets go from 79th Steet on the East end of town to 30 West at the Intracoastal Waterway to 69th pla...

Margaret Rudd & Associates, Inc. REALTORS manages vacation rental real estate at Oak Island, which formerly was known as Yaupon Beach and Long Beach, and also Caswell Beach and Southport, NC.  This year there are homes and condominiums available for rental for the week beginning 4th of July, tomorrow, and if they aren't rented on a weekly basis by tomorrow they will begin to be available on a nightly basis.  Come to the Beach, where the breezes cool us off each day and the seafood is great!  The Brunswick Catch is local seafood, and really can't be beat.

Southport has its best face forward for the crowds expected to enjoy the N C 4th of July Festival.  Our streets have lots of red, white and blue pennants  over  the street and most buildings are decorated for  the celebration.  Since the 4th of July falls on a Saturday this year it will be interesting as that is check-out and check-in day at the Oak Island Beaches.  We do have available some beachfront and beachside accommodations.  Come join the fun.

I've had 5 straight great days on the bicycle, and no soreness now, almost 3 months after the fractures!  It's hard not to feel great riding by and across the Intracoastal Waterway or by the Oak Island Lighthouse at Caswell Beach.  All you have to do to see the ocean is to glance over at the right spots and there is the mighty Atlantic.  Beginning with 6 miles, then 8, then 10, then 14 and 18 today I feel like I'm gaining back my conditioning on the bicycle. What does this have to do with real estate?  It's certainly easy to see which brochure boxes are being emptied, and which agents keep them filled.  I have one location that is so popular I finally had to tape a brochure on the inside of the front door glass.

This is beautiful!   I don't think I ever heard Elvis in "better voice" than on this--it's a "chill-maker", even a "tear-dropper"! How fitting for 2009 perhaps we need the reminder so... please don't delete before reading as I know you will really enjoy it!!   Click here: A Tribute to our Flag  With love... Ginger Harper
