An interesting article appeared in Friday's Charlotte Observer. Due to copyright laws, I can not do a simple copy/paste, so I will do my best to summarize for you. The article can be found online at http://www.charlotte.com/, at least for the time being. In an article titled "Price trends? Area stats among nation's best", columnist Allen Norwood brings out some very interesting details. According to this article, the National Association of REALTORS (NAR) issued a press release that had said that in the South, the Charlotte region (known as Charlotte-Gastonia-Concord) had the strongest SFR price increase. The current average according to the information was at $220,100 which is UP 11% from a year ago. According to the article, the press release was from earlier last week, and covered the...

Having lived in Kannapolis, NC for most of my natural life; I'm pleased to see the changes that are coming. For years we've been the bastard step-children of this area. Full of uneducated "lint heads" and lacking in sophistication. Cannon/Fieldcrest/Pillowtex or whatever it was at any particular point dominated the landscape and anyone who didn't have a relative working in the mill wasn't considered a native. But my friend, the times they are a-changin', to quote Bob Dylan. And boy, is the landscape changing. A $1 billion dollar redevelopment project by David Murdoch and his company, Dole Foods, to make Kannapolis a national, bio-tech research facility is underway. (unless you live a cave, you know that already) Educational participants include Duke University, N.C. A&T University, N.C. ...

The small town of Kannapolis best known for being the birth place of NASCAR legend Dale Earnhardt will now have something else to talk about. Powerhouse developer Castle & Cooke are in the midst of working on a $500 million project that when finished will change the face of the entire town. In addition the new 350-acre research campus that is being built downtown, Castle & Cooke will be adding additional commercial space, retail space with condominium and townhouse units above. The design will have a similar look to the Birkdale Village in Huntersville and will be integrated into the existing Kannapolis Village. According to Anthony Sparrow, vice president of residential development for Castle & Cooke the master plan is to bring revenue to the area relatively quickly by creating jobs...

The impact of the new bio-tech center in Kannapolis, North Carolina will be tremendous. By the year 2013 there will be 5,535 jobs. Not just jobs, but good, high-paying jobs! Within 25 years, there will be a cumulative job impact of 37,450. This is great news to an area recently ravaged by the deterioration of the textile and furniture manufacturing industries, and the migration of the electronics manufacturing industry. This article illustrates what should be evident to all...that the city leaders need to prepare for this growth with "big investments in education, infrastructure and quality of life".Randy

You know, nothing is free in this life.Kannapolis NC has been ecstatic ever since the announcement by mult-bazillionaire David Murdock of the North Carolina Research Campus.  If you're not familiar with the project, it's a collaboration between Murdock and the University of North Carolina system to promote biotechnology on one huge, technologically supreme campus.  They're anticipating over 170 companies relocating here to be a part of this growth.  You see, Kannapolis lost her identity when the Cannon Mills (Fieldcrest Cannon) shut down in 2003.  The largest mass layoff in North Carolina history.  Folks around that area worked in the textile mills...their mamas and daddies worked there...their grandparents worked there...it was a way of life.  And it ended, as so many other textile and...

One of Cabarrus County's newest communities, The Village at Kellswater Bridge, is having an open house this weekend to show off their builder's model homes.   Merritt Homes has a gorgeous 3700 square foot Charleston-style two-story with double front porches and tons of detailed trim and appointments including granite, tile, hardwoods and an outdoor fireplace in the screened breezeway between the house and garage.  They have their design center set up in the finished garage to show off all their special options and upgrades. Daugherty Homes' model is next door and features lots of moldings and finish work as well.  It is around 3700 square feet as well and has a gorgeous front porch that welcomes you home.   Both of these homes are priced just over $600,000 with everything you'll see.  T...
