You've heard the expression "teach a man to fish", well that's whatmy dad tought me. Growing up my father worked as a Generalcontractor and REALTOR. No matter where we lived I would help him with his business. I wouldaddress open house invitations and mail them, file paperwork, it wasmy small way of spending quality time with my father. Little did Iknow that he was teaching me the tools that I would now use in my ownbusiness. When I obtained my license in 2004 I had the opportunity to work withany firm I wanted. I chose to work with my father in what is nowknown as Gann Realty. I wanted to be the first child to make myfather money instead of costing him money. So far I have succeededdespite the gloom and doom of the media and the housing market. So this blog is to publically say THANK Y...

It's guaranteed to be hectic right before closing, but you should always make time for a final walk-through. Your goal is to make sure that your home is in the same condition you expected it would be. Ideally, the sellers already have moved out. This is your last chance to check that appliances are in working condition and that agreed-upon repairs have been made. Here's a detailed list of what not to overlook for on your final walk-through.Make sure that:· Repairs you've requested have been made. Obtain copies of paid bills and warranties.· There are no major changes to the property since you last viewed it.· All items that were included in the sale price - draperies, lighting fixtures, etc. - are still there.· Screens and storm windows are in place or stored.· All appliances are opera...

Residents of Hendersonville know how to celebrate the 4th of July, with music, parades and, of course, fireworks. Jackson Park is hosting festivities that include arts and crafts, horse shoe tournament, an antique car show, inflatables for the kids, food, live music and even a wrestling show starting at 4pm and concluding, of course, with fireworks at dusk. There will be a parade down main street at 11am and the annual Music on Main Street features Special Edition, playing oldies music, for free from 7-9pm. Bring a chair, blanket or just your buns on the sidewalk and enjoy the city's celebration of America's independence.

Tucked in between the gorgeous Blue Ridge & Great Smoky Mountains, the city of Hendersonville has earned its nickname as the "City of Four Seasons" through its amazing natural beauty.  Mother Nature waves her wand every few months to bring about the transition from the brightly lit flora of springtime to the green grass and yellow sunshine of summer to the earthier tones of autumn and ending with the clean freshness of winter white. Tourism plays a huge part in Hendersonville's local economy.  Over the years, tourists have come to visit the area and fell right in love with it, purchasing land for their summer homes so they could return year after year.  Hendersonville now enjoys a perfect balance between gorgeous residential neighborhoods and thriving commercial properties to keep the l...

Historic Hyman Heights - Listed on the National Register of Historic Places! This neighborhood, just off Main St. in Historic Downtown Hendersonville is full of charm and character.  Hyman Heights was platted in 1908 and eventually merged with the Mount Royal section, which was platted in 1923. The area began its real growth with the opening of Hendersonville’s first hospital, Patton Hospital, in 1913 on Highland Avenue. Many local physicians built homes in the neighborhood during the hospital’s life in styles such as Craftsman Bungalow, Colonial Revival, Ranch, Four Square, and others. The Curb Market has been operating in Downtown Hendersonville since 1924.Locally Grown - Locally Made! One of My favorite places!   The Curb Market began as a group of farmers that brought their extra produce to town for the "city folk" to enjoy. It quickly became a popular place, expanding to include milk, eggs, butter, fresh fruit and vegetables, plants, jellies and backed goods and hand made mountain crafts. I have met some of the women that work their "booth" they are "the real south". The items for sale at the Curb Market have to be grown or produced in Henderson County. The same folks have run their booths for generations.  Just some of the items they sell = all produced in Henderson County. Daylilies, Hostas, Dahlias, Sunflowers and too many varieties of native plants....Fresh Vi...

Mast General Store - in business since 1883.The first Mast General store was opened in 1883 in Valle Crucis, NC. Folks used to play bottle cap checkers next to the pot-bellied stove. It has now grown to 9 locations throughout the south. Hendersonville, NC is lucky to have this fantastic store. It is like walking back in time. You see all the old mercantile items, lye soap, jellies, jams and cast iron skillets. Then venture on to the toys - old fashioned toys, with no batteries allowed. These are a favorite of my kids - perfect stocking stuffers. Old marbles, airplanes, puzzles, and rubber band guns are just a few of the items in the toy dept. Then you won't believe the candies. Old fashioned candies, like Teaberry gum, Necco wafers, mary janes, zagnuts and bottle caps. Then on to the ca...

McFarlan's Bakery Downtown Hendersonville since 1930A fixture in Downtown Hendersonville, this bakery has been a favorite for visitors and locals for decades. I have loved this bakery since I moved here in the 80's. I have raised my children here and they LOVE this bakery. My son has grown up on smiley face cookies and my daughter on chocolate eclairs. They have been scarfing them down since they were able to walk. They are now 15 and 13 and still love them. My favorite - when I choose to indulge are the powdered sugar cake donuts! Another family favorite - you can custom order, so for every birthday I can remember - we order a dozen devils food cupcakes with cream cheese icing. The counter at McFarlan's is overflowing with wonderful baked goods. It is narrow, and overflowing with every v...

One investment at a time. That is the way my daddy started his business buying one lot at a time, soon he owned 2 blocks on a very busy Hwy. We had a 5 star restaurant where celebrities and I used to rub elbows. They even come to my school to visit me (my teachers used to droll over them). Me being 8 years old at that time it meant so much to me, my favorite soccer players showing up to see me on the weekends was the best of all. Daddy was a smart man he knew when to buy and what to buy. Sometime later daddy sold all his real-estate he owned and invested in mines started to mine copper, gold, silver and other various metals. When the time came that he could not work anymore for health reasons it was the time to pass the torch .This is the time for Mr. Waldrop to pass the torch to others...

Henderson County is located in Western NC, covers a 375-square mile area and was incorporated in 1838.  Per the 2004 census Henderson County's population was 96,124 and I suspect we have added more folks since than.  The area is generally known as a destination location for many relocating families/retirees.The five incorporated areas of Henderson County are the city of Hendersonville, the Village of Flat Rock, the Town of Fletcher, the Town Laurel Park and the Town of Mills River. The county sits 2,200 feet above sea level and is surrounded by the Great Smokies and the Blue Ridge Mountains.  You will find 4 distinct, generally mild seasons (of course there are always exceptions.)  Summertime not only finds many tourists but a plethoria of summer residents fleeing the Florida summer heat...
