Henderson County, NC It's That Time Of The Year Again -- Tax Lien PublicationIf you own real property in Henderson County, NC and missed the deadline of January 6, 2010 to have paid your property taxes the law requires that these delinquencies be posted in the local newspaper with the owner of records name.Second notices of unpaid property taxes had been mailed to property owners in the hope they were just overlooked, forgotten about or whatever and that the reminder would avoid having to publish their name and property in the paper. If these property taxes go unpaid for an extended period of time it does open up the possibility that the Henderson County Tax Collector could initiate foreclosure proceedings which could culminate with the property being auctioned off on the Henderson Count...

Say It Isn't So -- More Snow in Hendersonville Area!I know -- you must use your imagination on this picture (don't have the right kind of camera to catch it) to see the snow flakes, but, those blurry white spots are them.  Actually they were coming down pretty heavy for a while here in Hendersonville but we didn't have any accumulation or problems.  It just caught us by surprise after the balmy Saturday spring day and the still 50's on Sunday with rain, lots of rain very heavy at times.Marvin's poor pansies were pummeled but they held their own and are still pretty perky.Actually our sourrounding areas in the higher elevations did have snow on the ground and even some school early outs.  These spots are expected to have more snow this evening and tomorrow AM.This is the winter season th...

First Day of Spring -- Glorious in Hendersonville NC and AreaWhat a beautiful entrance and first day of spring we had.  Sunshine, fabulous Carolina blue skies and 70 degrees! It was a wonderful gift after the much more severe than normal winter weather we are accostumed to.My hubby has been itching with Spring fever and spent a large part of the day out in the yard, fertilizing, trimming, planting, hooking up hoses and on and on to get outside ready for full Spring and Summer.Above is part of our side yard that just little over a week ago was still full of snow.Perky and colorful pansies and behind them -- spring onions.  We love those things! And here's Marvin hooking up one of the hoses.  He's not only the beloved hubby but keeper of the grounds.  I am so looking forward once again to t...

Septic Tanks and What They Mean to Buyers and Sellers As a buyer, when you look at a home, you really should understand the importance of septic systems. If the home is not on city water and sewer, then you will be responsible for both. It could mean a lot of money if you do not do your homework and understand its importance. With a septic tank, you will need to know if the system was approved by the Department of Health when it was installed. If the listing agent does not have the information for you, you and/or your buyers agent need to contact the Health Department. In Henderson County this will mean a trip to the building located at 1200 Spartanburg Highway. You will want to go to the door for the Health Department and then follow it all the way to the back, to the door marked: and ...

Neighbors On A Cruise -- Become Part Of An Experience and Make The NewsGosh, we have celebrity's in our community!  The folks in this interview from the Charleston cruise are part of our small community here in Dana Hill. They just arrived back home today (Thursday) and were on the local news!  Indeed they said it was well worth it and they would love to go again.  They were only sick for a day or two and were able to enjoy the rest of the cruise to the fullest and were sorry they had to miss out on one day.  They were celebrating their retirement and enjoyed it and would do it again.  I think that was a great attitude.  They said the personnel were doing all they could do to accomodate the situation and keep the ship as germ free as possible and were constantly wiping down everything.  ...

I was reading an article on HubSpot about the postal service and it gave me pause. The article pretty much advocates getting rid of the postal system all together. Go green and save trees and all. In part, I am right there. I do think that most people now use the internet for connecting and  hand written letter writing is dead as we have known it. Or at least people my age and older have known it. And the paper we save would be incredible. I agree 100% on that one and am all for it. I am in complete agreement to ending the Saturday mail, and would even support another day, like the middle of the week as a day off. But to do away with it all together would be sad in my eyes. We still have millions of home bound elderly whose only contact with the outside world comes in the form of hand w...

Should Have Done My Taxes Sooner For NC!  I purchased Turbo Tax last month and have been getting "to it" ever since!  Last week I finally retrieved and placed all the necessary tax papers in one location.  This process reminded me that I need to be better organized and develop a better method for paper filing for business and tax purposes.I took the above graphic with my Webcam, but, I'd be way toooooo embarrased to show you a picture of what the area around my laptop and home work area looks like!  It's a disaster area with segregated piles of "stuff"!I digress.  I seriously started working on the taxes today along with ongoing real estate related things.  Why I just don't take the taxes to an accountant or tax preparer I can't explain, but, I have gone through this for many years.  I ...

That’s all I asked for when my grandmother passed away.  To me the cookie jar reminded me of the times she spent teaching me her secret peanut butter cookie recipe.  That cookie jar represents discipline, patience and love.  My grandmother loved to can vegetables from their garden.  The highlight of her week was the trip to the hair dressers, church and then to Piggly Wiggly.  She made the best tasting fried chicken and every time I stayed the night she’d have me kneel at the foot of my bed.  She read a few passages from the Bible, prayed with me and kissed me goodnight.  I never knew how lucky I was to have a grandparent love me that much.  I honor her memory by sharing with you what a wonderful person she was.  It’s so funny what material things have sentimental value.

Hendersonville NC - Round Four or Five of Snow (losing count!)  This bout of winter was predicted two days ago to be nothing to be concerned about and should amount to no more than 1-2 inches.  By yesterday the story changed and the predictions started saying Hendersonville and the Western NC area could now expect anywhere from 2 - 9 inches!  That's a pretty good point spread. Here in my part of Hendersonville it started to be serious at about 10:00 AM.  I took the above picture at 11 AM.  Now this area had just finally divested itself of almost all (but the hardiest) evidence of previous snows.  It is very pretty, but, we've really seen enough of the pretty for this winter.  The kids are even moaning and groaning as they are now having to make up days on Saturdays (if it isn't snowing!)...
