Outdoor Living Space Planting Advicefor the Carolinas With the wonderful climates here in the Carolinas (minus the heat wave we’ve been subject to recently!), we get to spend a lot of time entertaining and enjoying our outdoor living spaces. That being said, there is no reason for your planters to sit bare during the fall and winter months. Many of us simply leave our planters bare because the thought of maintaining that “inviting” look at all times can be a little overwhelming. Believe me, I get it. But fear not! There are easy, low-maintenance steps you can take to keep your planters looking great all year-round. One simple way to achieve this in your outdoor living space is to make your planters for “all seasons” by placing evergreens in them. This can be done by planting a dwarf Lel...

My Client Wants It, So I Am Gonna Go Find It!   I have a wish list from one of my new clients.  So first on the list is a older home with a list of needs and wants she wants.  So I have scoured the MLS and now I am actually scouring the older neighborhoods of Greensboro, NC looking for FSBO's.  The chance that there is a home that will fit her needs and wants and is a For Sale By Owner is to high.  As we know too often FSBO's do not get sold because they have no exposure.  Basically no one knows they are for sale.  Unfortunately many agents shy away from such a transaction since they do not have a buffer/agent on the other side to deal with instead of having to negotiate directly with the seller.  I actually enjoy the chance since I am very confident of my negotiating skills after over ...

Calling all doughnut lovers!  In honor of National Doughnut Day, Krispy Kreme will be giving away one free doughnut per customer all day tomorrow.   Our local Krispy Kreme, located at 2401 Battleground Avenue, Greensboro, will certainly be a popular spot!  If you're not in Greensboro, check with your local Krispy Kreme to make sure they are participating. Krispy Kreme got its start right here in North Carolina in 1937, just down the road in Winston Salem.  According to the Krispy Kreme website, Vernon Rudolph, the founder, began making doughnuts for local grocery stores but the scent was so tempting that people walking by asked to buy them.  So Mr. Rudolph cut a hole in the wall of his building so he could sell them directly to pedestrians.  The legions of Krispy Kreme fans have been gr...

I almost couldn't believe it yesterday when I read on Facebook about a black bear in Guilford Hills.  I mean, really, Guilford Hills in Greensboro?!?  It is definitely not a rural area.  Bounded by Battleground Boulevard and Benjamin Parkway, tucked between Target and Friendly Center, how in the world could a bear be living there?  However, this morning's News and Record confirmed that there was in fact a black bear chased up a tree yesterday morning by two neighborhood dogs.  To put it mildly, this is very rare here in Greensboro.  Stay tuned for more on this unique story!!!  Photo courtesy of Facebook page and credited to Stuart Tucker.

Greensboro, NC Real Estate Home Report: The Greensboro Home Market Report for this month requires some scrutiny.  Usually in these monthly market reports, I compare trends over a one year period.  However, because of the Federal Home Buyers Tax Credit, which provided up to $8,000 to buyers who had homes under contract by April 30, 2010, there was a large spike in homes under contract and homes sold during the first part of 2010.  Therefore, when comparing April 2011 to April 2010, there was significant drop in the number of homes in Greensboro under contract and the number of homes in Greensboro sold. However, it is more telling to look at trends over two years to get a more accurate idea of the current market situation.  When you compare April 2009 to April 2011, the under contracts ac...
