Once again our fair city garners merit for being a great place to live.Durham was ranked number 3, according to Business Week as a place to for riding out the recession. Medical, the universities, the Research Triangle Park, are but a few of the reasons why our beloved city ranks so well. The Research Triangle Park, the biggest research park in the world. Among other things, the renewal of downtown Durham is making this a great town! Also the people here are very friendly and diversity is immense. Making the Grade: Raleigh/Durham Housing Market Gets a "B" If you haven't noticed, discussion of the housing market has been relentlessly focused on price (average sales price, median sales price,) price direction, and units. And for good reason - they are useful and telling numbers. But price movements alone do not tell the whole story. Particularly if we are talking about the overall health of our real estate market, and especially it's long term prospects for recovery.   In that case, the focus on price/units as the sole measure of the housing market is a little like diagnosing a patient with a influenza as terminally ill because they've spiked a fever.   The Oaks is a lovely, executive neighborhood that spans the Chapel Hill/Durham border (part of this neighborhood is in Chapel Hill and part is in Durham).  The newest homes are in the Durham section.  These homes are very stately on beautiful lots and range in size, style and type.  The streets in this neighborhood are wide and nice to drive on and there are sidewalks which makes it great for walking and safe for kids on their bikes and roller blades.  There is a section called The Oaks Villas which are very nice smaller homes that are either one level or at least with a first floor master bedroom.  The Chapel Hill Country Club is located in the Oaks.  It is not a requirement to be a member of the club to live in this neighborhood.   Schools:   E - Creekside   M - Githens  H - Jordan ... 10/09/2008
