While I am enjoying the cooler weather of fall, it does reming me that the cold is on its way. I spent a little time this morning thinking about some past vacations I took. While I like luxury hotels and vacation resorts, there are a couple of reasons that I sometimes choose to rent a house instead. It is much more economical to rent a house or condo that sleeps eight to tweleve people than getting hotel rooms to accomodate that many. Also, I enjoy preparing coolers of food to take to the beach for lunch and having everyone gather for a meal in the evenings. Of course I enjoy going to dinner as a group as well, but not every night. For me, the premier reason I often prefer renting a house is that it allows those who I want to be on vacation with to be nearby, while the strangers are not... 10/13/2008

What is the market like in Duck and Corolla, NC? We have been trying to purchase there for years but the area was experiencing extremes of price appreciation. Asked Tue Jun 10 2008 11:55 by B. M. Matt Huband answered: Just like everywhere on the Outer Banks the prices in Duck & Corolla have come down to where they were in 2003-2004. Most of the homes in Duck & Corolla are in the $500,000+ range with most over $1M an this price range has seen the largest drop in home prices. With the number of listed houses at one of the highest levels in years coupled with the tightening of the mortgage industry these houses are having fewer and fewer buyers. The town of Duck plans to celebrate it's 5th anniversary starting with a picnic on May 1, 2007 in the new town park. The picnic will be held from 1 to 4 pm at the north end of the park in the new parking area. The picnic is free to all who want to attend and will be held rain or shine.     The Village of Duck This is the third of the series about the Outer Banks Communities. Duck is a town that runs from the end of Southern Shores to the beginning of Corolla.  The town of Duck has bike trails that run throughout the town. The Town of Duck will celebrate its 5th anniversary this summer with the opening of a new 10 acres sound-front park. The town plans to celebrate by hosting a series of events at the park. Actors and musicians from the "Lost Colony" and the NC School of Arts will give 5 morning performances during the months of July and August.
