Mitch Edmondson and Scott Glasscox are used to building residential and commercial structures. Now, they are creating warm, homemade donuts covered in sugary glazes and sweet toppings. At their business, Family Dough Donuts, customers can create their own unique donut, from a standard honey glaze to blueberry glaze with cinnamon sugar and chocolate chips. Heavy equipment is used to dig holes for dynamite to blast through rock at the construction site of the Killian Creek Wastewater Treatment Facility south of Denver. Construction is scheduled to be complete at the end of next summer. Seth Mabry / LTN Photo Construction of the Killian Creek Wastewater Treatment Facility is right on target, according to Lincoln County Public Works Director Burns Whitaker. Welcome to Denver "of the East"Written By: David Rohr for DenverNC.comDenver, North Carolina is a small southern town located at the east end of Lincoln County in western North Carolina. The area is rich with history that follows the development of the United States from it's beginnings through to the present. The history of the area dates back to before the revolutionary war to a time when the Catawba Indians lived along the eastern banks of the river that still bears their name, and the Cherokee Indians lived to the west. The first bold pioneers known to settle this area were Adam Sherrill and his 8 sons, who migrated from Pennsylvania in 1747, and John Beatty who settled here in 1749. Both the Sherrills and Beatty settled along the west bank of the Catawba near shoals in the river t...

Jay Thompson needed to meet his deadline. Thompson had to finish renovating Vesuvius Vineyards in time for his July wedding this year. It was the place he and his bride, Kristy Anne Kelly, had chosen to exchange their vows and host a reception for 230 guests. But the venue was in no shape for guests, let alone, one of the most important days of Thompson's life. He and cousin, John Lineberger III, along with family and friends, brought the historic home and grounds back to life in time for the joyous occasion. Thompson's wedding sparked a business plan. People would often stop by the property and inquire more about the venue. The cousins decided that the property, owned by the Lineberger family, could be used for other weddings, parties, birthdays, receptions and a meeting place for org...

Yes, here in Denver, NC (Lake Norman). There are plenty of parks around Lake Norman but this is the very first for us. Oh, how I would have loved it to be here when my son was little.  The Grand Opening to Beatty’s Ford Park was Saturday, May 9, 2009. There were over 220 participants and 30+ volunteers at the event. The weather was perfect for such an event and the riders/walkers had a wonderful time, and I guess you're wondering how I know this....well I have the surveys in hand!Early on it was decided that the primary purpose for the event was to raise community awareness over monetary reasons.I am pleased to report it did both! Participants more than doubled from last years and the projected net is $7,000. This day and age, everyone is in a rush and not many people stop to smell the roses or *truly* be there for someone else.  Everyone is trying to make a buck make ends meet, and continue with the daily grind. The members here on the Rain do not fall into this category though.  Yesterday proved this... and it took my breath away. As you may recall last Friday I had to put my beloved buddy, Rusty to sleep.  He was with me for over 15 years, and it was *his* time.  I didn't want him to go, but I couldn't be selfish either. I wrote a blog about this "A Sad Farewell to a Dear Friend" and I want to take a moment to thank everyone that responded with heart felt comments.  Thank you. There is one ActiveRain member that I knew who would be touched by this story, but I didn't know she would touch ...
