My Backyard is Growing Again ~ Chesterbrook Academy is OPEN!   We are growing again here in Denver, NC at Lake Norman. Yes, I understand that you may have a Chesterbrook Academy in your backyard but this is the first for our backyard! In 1985, when I moved to the area there was only one daycare (that was open from 6:00 AM to 6:00 PM for infants to pre-k) for children in Denver and that was Our Gang Day Care. If you were a full-time working mother working eight hours a day and you didn't get a spot at Our Gang, you would have had to creatively find a place for your child or children. Mind you that this was a time before employers offered daycare for their employees; i.e: Bank of America and Wachovia. But as the years have pasted Ms. Ems was added, then Mini Academy Day Care, and others. ...

Cowans Ford Cowans Ford is magnificent. This upscale community, in the Lake Norman area, is located off of Club Road in Denver, NC, in Lincoln County; but the address is Stanley, NC. This luxury waterfront and golf community on Lake Norman was originally just a private country club for some of the elite Duke Power Company employees. Approximately, twenty years ago the country club went through a huge transformation, whereby a new pool and clubhouse was erected across the street to free up the land on the lake to be developed for homes. At the same time other land owned by, Cowans Ford, was being sold off as golf course lots with first priority given to the current members. This began on the street known as St. Andrews. Today there are still a few lots available but most are owned by pri...

YES! THERE IS A DENVER, NC 28037, SINCE 1877   Prior to getting back into real estate I was a business owner here in Denver, North Carolina. During that time while working with various vendors it was almost daily that I would hear, "There's a Denver, NC? I didn't know that." I would even hear this from other people throughout our state. So this blog is for the ones that never heard of Denver, NC and for people that would like to know more about Denver, NC, so sit back with your cappuccino and enjoy! The easiest way to remember Denver's location is that it is approximately 20-25 miles northwest of Charlotte; the queen city of North Carolina. Denver is also one of the towns that share the area called Lake Norman; Lake Norman is on the Catawba River and it is the largest lake in North Caro...

Denver is growing so fast it is hard to keep up.  The Denver residents are anxiously awaiting a few new restaurants to open soon.  Neat is a martini and tapas bar.  Tapas are appetizers that are eaten as a meal.  It is a great way to socialize with friends as everyone samples the wide range of dishes.  "What started out as a light bite to accompany a glass of wine in Andalusia spread throughout Spain, and latterly to fashionable bars worldwide." Neat is located at the West Pointe Shoppes on Highway 16 in Denver, NC.             Another new opening in West Pointe Shoppes is ,Steak Norman, a full service custom butcher shop and deli.  They will serve speciality meats with names like Boarhead.                    Midtown Sundries, a local chain, has made it's way out to Denver.  Midtown Sun...

There's a community that is close to the Hwy73/16 intersection that has all of Denver talking.  (The mailing address is actually Stanley, NC)  The neighborhood is called Tree Tops at Cowans Ford.  It borders the western side of Cowans Ford.  Owners who live in Tree Tops will have the option to buy into the Cowans Ford golf, and/or social package where they can use the Cowans Ford ammenities.  The wooded lots are about 1/3 acre.  Some of the best luxury home builders have chosen to leave their mark in this beautiful community, such as Southern Cottage, Vintage Homes, and U Build It to name a few.  The price range is from $400k-$700k and the homes range between 3000 sq. feet - 4500 sq feet.  Driving through the neighborhood you will notice a French Provincial, Tudor, or Traditional influ...

Denver is getting a YMCA ~ Sally's Y Denver is in the process of getting a YMCA! It is something that I have heard since they finished the Lincolnton YMCA several years ago; even with the rapid growth in the Denver area there wasn't an urgency until David and Jo Clark got involved. On April 4, 2004, their only daughter Sally McKenzie Clark and her cousin Anna Grace Jordan were tragically killed in a car accident by a drunk driver. Both girls were only 19 at the time, with a lifetime of plans and dreams ahead of them.   After Sally's death, her family and friends decided to create a lasting memorial in her honor. They wanted to not only remember her life, but they also wanted to celebrate what she loved. With Sally's love of God and passion for sports and the outdoors Sally's parents ...

When I first moved out to Denver, NC there was hardly more than a grocery store.  However, it has been growing by leaps and bounds over the past several years.  People are catching on to this side of Lake Norman.  With all the growth, comes a lot of mom- and -pop stores that offer a sense of uniqueness.  One of my favorite stores is located at the corner of Hwy 74 and Hwy 16.  It is called Honeysuckle.  It is here that you can find unusual gifts and furniture that has a French country flair.  Deborah Maynor, the owner,  tries to offer the best products from baby clothes, candles, lotion, and handmade paper to ecletic furniture and signs.  If you live in Denver, or just passing through, you will not regret stoppi...

Denver, North Carolina, may be growing by leaps and bounds, but it still offers that small town charm.  You can begin the morning with a pancake breakfast at Webbs Chapel Church.  After you stuff your belly, (pancakes are my weakness) you can head over to the Fairfield Forest Parade in Westport.  This isn't going to be anything like the Boston Harborfest Parade, but it will be fun for the whole family to watch the decorated wagons and patriotic costumes traveling from Fairfield United Methodist Church to Peter-by-the-Lake Episcopal Church. Lake Norman will be lit up with fireworks this Friday night, July 4th.  The best spot is the lake.  If you or someone you know has a boat, you will see the skies light up and the waters reflect spectacular views of fireworks from every corner of the ...

Prior to getting married my husband and I discussed where we were going to make our home; the year was 1984. We came to the conclusion that Denver (Lake Norman) would be the best area to begin. We began here and have stayed here and can't think of anywhere else we would like to be. In the beginning though, I was really concerned that I wouldn't be able to adapt. Prior to this I lived in the "BIG" city Charlotte and loved it. Loved the closeness to everything from SouthPark to Harris Teeter, from movies to bowling alleys, from Carowinds to the coliseum and let's not forget Douglas International Airport. Everything at your fingertips!! And did I mention that I worked in Uptown Charlotte? Denver in 1984 was so different than it is today. Denver only had three neighborhoods: Westport, Count...
