Charlotte has a great resource at the University of North Carolina at Charlotte. The J Murray Atkins library is a huge building which houses the university's main collection of books. It was named after the first Chairman of the Board of Trustees of Charlotte College, the name of the school before it became part of the University of North Carolina System. It employs almost a hundred people and holds more than a million volumes. They have wireless internet on the first few floors of the building and a bunch of computers for folk who just walk in. It is a little different from the public libraries. They use a different coding system to shelve books. It's amazing the depth and breadth of books they have there.
