Charlotte, NC Real Estate News

Right in the middle of Ballantyne in Charlotte, NC real estate there is a shopping center that has sprung up with the advent of the new outer belt highway. Stonecrest took advantage of one of the first legs of the outer belt and brings some upscale shops to South Charlotte and especially to the ballantyne and piper glen areas. I went there tonight not knowing what to expect, what with the economy and all and came to find it packed. You tell me what that means about the state of the economy or how it affects south Charlotte. Actually I know exactly why there were so many people there. Today was a really warm day.  The massive theater complex is a huge draw for many people at Stonecrest. It shows a wide variety of first release movies. Actually, Will Smith made an appearance there a few w...

The Charlotte Knights, Charlotte's minor league baseball team is hosting Night With the Knights for the second year in a row.  It won't be at Knight's Castle as their stadium is called. Knight's castle is located in Tega Cay, South Carolina, just over the border from Charlotte NC. It is easily accessable from Pineville. You can get to it from any where because it's on Interstate-77, it's just easiest to get to from Pineville. This night with the knights is a fundraiser that's in its second year. Cal Ripkin Jr is set to appear. To which I said, "Whaaaaa?" Why would he come to Charlotte for this? Cal Ripkin is a member of the Baseball hall of fame and holds the record for most consecutive baseball games played. It seems like a lame record, but it's really hard to play a hundred and fifty ...

The Charlotte Bobcats suffered a bad loss earlier this week when the Atlanta Hawks came to play them in Charlotte.  Apparently, according to the Charlotte Observer, the Bobcats had the lead, by seventeen points for some time. But they squandered it and lost.  It was a big game for anyone interested basketball players with local connections. Raymond Felton is the point guard for the Charlotte Bobcats. He's a good player, but putting him on the team was a really slick marketing move. Felton was one of the players who won a NCAA National Championship with the University of North Carolina Tar Heels in 2005. Putting him on the team got the Bobcats a lot of looks from alumni who might not have looked twice. It also got huge cheers from the zillions of Chapel Hill graduates in Charlotte. Marvi...

It's big news folks - Adam Morrison is now a short timer. Apparently, he is being traded to the Las Angeles Lakers for Vladimir Radmanovic. The Charlotte Observer says that Morrison was the first draft pick that Michael Jordan made as the managing partner of the franchise.  Michael Jordan has had involvement in several NBA teams since he retired. I think he had owned part of the Washington Wizards - are they still a team anymore? Jordan has stepped up to take more control of the team now. I think Bob Johnson, owner of BET still has a stake in the team, as do rapper Nelly, and a few other people, but apparently Michael Jordan is getting deeper into the business of making the basketball team work. I'd love to see him do it, especially here. He grew up in Wilmington, NC, which is on the be...

If you are considering moving to a new neighborhood, whether it's across the street or across the country, I recommend doing three things: 1.  Use the Internet! You can find almost anything on the Internet....population demographics, crime rates, home sale trends, data on schools, satellite pictures of the area, the list is endless. The Internet is a great place to begin your research. For some tips and tricks on using the Internet to research a home or neighborhood, please visit our Real Estate & The Internet page. 2.  Ask an agent. A good real estate agent knows the area. We drive around neighborhoods, we read the news, we talk to people. A good agent can tell you a lot about a neighborhood. You should know however, that real estate law prohibits us from discussing certain things. We ...

I was looking around on one of the city's websites today and found a benefit for wounded marines at Colonel Francis Beatty Park, which is really close to Matthews. Participants have to do what regular marine recruits would have to do when they join the service. They will participate in a bunch of drills that test their endurance and athleticism. When it includes as one component a four mile run with a backpack, it's gotta be tough. Marine reservists from the 4th batallion were on hand to act as drill instructors for the event.  Proceeds from the event benefited several organizations. One was Hope for the Warriors, an organization that works for the Marine Recovery and Resource Center to be built at Camp Lejeune, NC. Another was Homes for Our Troops, a group that works toward building in...

In this day and age, it's almost impossible to imagine a family hardware business surviving, especially in a place as big and car oriented as Charlotte NC. But there is a great hardware store that has weathered the hardware storm created by Home Depot and Lowes.  It has a character all its own in the Charlotte neighborhood of Myers Park. I can't tell you how long it has been there, but the shopping center it is a part of has been around for a while. Blackhawk hardware offers what hardware stores used to offer, a friendly atmosphere, knowledgeable employees and a convenient location.  The store has popcorn popping all day. People grab a bag as they walk in and carry it around as they shop for screws and wrenches and paint and wood.  The crazy part of this store is that it is right in the...

You know, one of the things you really don't think about or learn about when you come to a new town are the television and entertainment stations in your new city.  Well, the offerings are pretty cool, especially if you are one of the lucky ones who have bought a ridiculously large flatscreen HDTV and are hooked up to a digital cable or satelite service. Charlotte has a bunch of television stations, and, impressively, most of them offer a chanel in high definition. That means that you might even have some local programming in high definition.  There are two public television stations that have High definition signals, UNCTV, an affiliate of the UNC Chapel Hill's public television station, and WTVI, the Charlotte Area public television station.  The programming is a little different betw...

Here's a restaurant for folks who just like  a good old american hot dog. Foie gras is nice and braised scallops are fine from time to time, but hot dogs are a must on a hot summer afternoon. I read about this place in Charlotte Magazine, a glossy magazine that chronicles food and fashion in the Charlotte area. Basically, Matt's is a hot dog stand , but he offers a ton of variations on the subject. There are Chicago style hot dogs, as the name of the restaurant might suggest, but there are also some less common themes.  The Chicago dog has yellow mustard, relish, chopped onions, tomato, kosher pickle, sport peppers and celery salt. It sounds to me like a hot dog on steroids.  There is also a Carolina dog, since this is a business in the Carolinas. The Carolina dog is an all beef, skin o...

The Charlotte market is what drove me to this location. It is stable, but like most "stable" areas, nothing booming is happening. Despite the fact that Charlotte has 70,000 people moving here w/in the next 24 mos speaks volumes, but does nothing for the immediate need of instant gratification. Fortunately the foreclosure market is low here, which is good. But before I moved to Charlotte I had no idea that "NC" was the #1 fraud state in the country for loan fraud? ARE YOU KIDDING ME? I moved out here from Denver, CO and I thought it was bad out there, to find out I have officially landed in the #1 most fraudulent state in the country? WTF, lol? Licesenced mortgage broker here, trying to take advantage of the short sale and foreclosure TSUNAMI. If I can help anybody in any way shape of fo...

As a Broker and Realtor, it's important to understand how to best utilize the power of the Internet in my career as a Broker and Realtor in Charlotte, NC. Countless sources state that 90% of all real estate transactions involve the Internet and the buyer or seller's interaction with accomplishing their goals. Of course, as a Broker and Realtor with over 23 years experience, I have relied on many types of media to perform well in my career. With the emerging technologies and on line world that the Internet opened in the late 1990s, we soon realized the importance of creating our on line presence with commerce and data sites, best described now as Web 1.0. The earliest websites were developed to present information and data which was static in nature. The web sites seemed to talk at you ...

Real Estate Update for Jan. The average days on market before a sale has increased. Almost 50% of all real estate closings now take 120 days or more. Residential closings are also down 47% when compared to this same time last year. On the bright side buyers are getting great bargains, as well the best rates in years.

The following is an excerpt from my Foreign Currency Broker (If you are interested I can forward the whole article) When price declines affect a majority of goods and services, they can become the expectation of consumers. As inflation promotes current consumption in place of future consumption because goods are bought today in anticipation of higher prices tomorrow, so deflation substitute’s future consumption, when prices are expected to be lower, for current spending. A clear example is the current residential housing market. In many places home prices are now below levels that if they had been offered a year or two ago would have brought out a slew of buyers. But now the same house at the same price attracts no offers. Why? It is not only that mortgages are harder to obtain and that...

The first thing you should do is ask someone you trust for a referral.  If someone you trust, like a family member, or your Realtor, feels confident in their ability to refer you to a mover, they must have had a pretty good experience themselves.  That is always a good place to start, but keep in mind, a mover is only as good as his last move.  You still need to protect you and your family's best interest.  Here are a few tips. Homework.  Starting with a mover you were referred to, get at least two other names.  Do a little background check on them first.  Start with the better business bureau in your area.  Do a Google search on the local agents' company name.  Disregard searches with the carriers' name.  Names like United, Mayflower, Allied, etc don't own any trucks and are the franch...

Customer Service IS What We Do! Our firm had our annual meeting last week where we were honored for various achievements and were met with new challanges for the upcoming year. The Maxwell House Group received four different awards and we were SO very proud--we received the Bank of America, 'Referral Award' as we do refer a large number of clients to BOA and we did so more than others in our office in 2008, so BOA honored us for this one.  Our team won the highest sales team for our office and we also won the Silver Sales individual and team awards. However, the most important award that we received is the Platinum Level Customer Service Award.  To me, that IS what we do and of all of the goals that we aspired to achieve in 2008, this is, by FAR, the most coveted that we achieved.   I d...
