THis morning CFC announced it layed off 500 employees of it "Full Spectrum Lending" unit. 500 employees, does this even make sense? Less than 1% of it's 61,000 employees of it's retail sub prime and ALT-A unit? See the numerous articles that discussed that this morning.;http://news.search.yahoo.com/search/news?ei=UTF-8&p=countrywide+layoffs Speculation abounds that Bank Of America or Wells may make a bid for them. Countrywide has run full page ads in the Los Angeles TImes and the Detroit's Free Press in an effort to reduce panic and prevent a run on it's banking centers where customers apparently flooded yesterday amid fears of losing their deposits.....I hope they make it, but in full dislosure, I bet my boss lunch that by Monday they will be at the courthouse steps with a petition. It ...

In a mortgage lender's eyes, the higher your score is, the less risk you are, and the more likely it is you will pay off your debt. For this reason, borrowers with lower scores usually end up paying higher interest rates on their loans. If this is you, don't panic. There are a number of things you can do to adjust your credit score to receive a favorable review from the underwriter. Here are a few suggestions: Should I pay off all my past due balances and charge-offs? This is usually a good idea, but you only need to worry about the past due ...

Have you ever been to Lazy Daze in Cary?  If you haven't you've been missing out for the past 30 years.  Each year the festival has grown and now attracts over 60,000 visitors in downtown Cary. I don't think I'll make it because I have an out-of-town buyer coming to visit but I've been several years in the past.   Don't miss the areas best arts and crafts, food, and entertainment.   The festival also features entertainment on two stages, a variety of food, and civic group exhibits.  Over 400 vendors from 18 states will be participating. I've even heard they are adding a beer garden for the adults.  I know you've heard me talk about Rankings.  Lazy Daze ranked 30th in the Nation for Classic & Contemporary Craft Shows by Sunshine Artist Magazine.

The subject of credit scoring has become an increasingly hot topic, and for good reason. For many years, the general public only associated the concept of credit scoring with the need to purchase high-ticket items such as a new car or a home.Today, credit scoring goes much further. Your credit score can affect your ability to get a good rate on commodities such as car insurance, cell phones, or even determine whether or not you get the job that you want. Indeed, the financial snapshot provided by the credit score has also become a gauge for many employers, especially those who seek to place employees in a position of financial responsibility.Email your request to me for your free 6 page report on how you can improve your credit score BEFORE applying for a mortgage and being turned down ...

Many people think of Cary as a sprawling cul-de-sac bedroom community.  They are right.  There are lots of reasons why families like to call Cary home - Good schools, low crime rate, clean roads, and very well thought out neighborhoods.  I wrote in my last blog about the American Tobacco Trail that starts in Durham and extends all the way to Apex.  What a great resource closeby.  I also thought I'd write about another favorite in the heart of Cary - Bond Park.  Located just east of the intersection of Cary Parkway and High House Roads this is a wonderful way to spend a fall afternoon hiking, biking, or just plain hanging out.  The facilities at Bond Park are just fabulous.  They have a little bit of something for everyone including: At 310 Acres its one of the largest parks in Wake Coun...

Fed Discount Window Cut: How it affects your clients and your businessThe Federal Reserve has taken significant action in the last few weeks due to the credit crunch. And now they've made an unexpected move by cutting the discount window rate - which is great news. I'll get to that in a minute, but first let's look at recent events and understand what they mean. Market movementTo date, over 120 mortgage companies have closed their doors due to reduced liquidity. The result: Borrowers who want to take out non-conforming loans have fewer, more expensive options. Many media outlets have incorrectly added fuel to the fire by stating that mortgage lending has stopped altogether and that borrowers can't get a loan without a 20% down-payment. This is not true. Conforming interest rates and loa...

I had the pleasure of showing houses in yesterday and today's record breaking temperatures. To top it off my clients were from California and the Fedex guy backed out of a luxury home into my Lexus.  What does that mean? My clients spent an hour and a half in the heat waiting for the State Trooper to arrive to write up the ticket.  Oh what joy!!                                               That said, North Carolina HOT is a different kind of hot.  I've said over and over again that I grew up in Texas.  Texas is DRY HEAT.  100 degrees in Texas is NOT HOT because there isn't a lot of humidity.  However, anything over 95 degrees in the Triangle is REALLY HOT.  I just turned off the nightly forecast.  WOWEEE!! We hit 104 degrees today-105 is the all time record in the area.  Something has ...

North Hills in Raleigh has become an urbanite's heaven.  The chic shops and trendy bistros of North Hills have become a desireable model for other nearby cities.  Perhaps it all started over in Chapel Hill (with Southern Village and Meadowmont) but now a newly approved development similiar to Raleigh's North Hills and Brier Creek have caused a stir in Cary.  It was a divided vote: but, the pro-commerce, growth, & development crowd won it.  Some Wake County residents fear traffic will become an issue, but many say the Cary development's benefits far outweigh the negatives.According to the Raleigh News & Observer, the Prestonwood area in Cary will watch as 320 new upscale apartments will be incorporated into a mix of shops, a movie theatre, and office space.  If it is anything like its pr...

Southern Section of I-540 Now Open In the Triangle the new Outer Beltline, called I-540, has been under construction and in the works for years.  Up until this past week there have been two sections that are opened.  The first section North of Raleigh.  The second section extended the northern loop all the way to the intersection of Highway 64 and 264 near Knightdale. The new section is located on the southern side of the intersection with Interstate 40, although not without some problems and controversy over the project. Commuters in the area can now take the new southern portion of the I-540 stretch to connect to Davis Drive, Highway 54, or Highway 55 just past Research Triangle P ark (RTP).  The four lane highway extends I-540 another  five miles and it dead-ends at the Highway 55 ex...

Not long ago, someone posted a comment to our blog asking if Cary really is known as the "Central Area for Relocating Yankees."  Our response: yes, indeed it is!Finding an actual "Cary native" or "Raleigh native" is a bit of a task.  Most Wake County residents aren't originally from North Carolina, which says a lot for the Triangle area.  It is highly attractive to people from all walks of life, whether they are from San Antonio or the Bronx; Tokyo or Kenya; Baltimore or Beirut.  There's even a Kosher market in Raleigh:Philly cheesesteaks and NYC pizza are as easy to find here as biscuits and gravy ever since the influx of New Englanders.  In one Cary shopping center, there's a Tienda Hispana, Mongolian Restaurant, huge Asian supermarket, and Thai restaurant.  Nearby, the shops around N...

The "going green" trend is as popular in the Triangle area as anywhere else.  While Cary has experienced unprecedented growth, several parks and greenspaces have been intentionally been built and preserved for the enjoyment of all Cary residents.  Call it "growing" green...you'll find crepemyrtles, magnolias, pines, grassy spaces, all throughout the town. Nearby Apex is similar.  A 160-acre park is scheduled to be built beginning in Spring 2008 on Apex Barbecue Road.  Hmmm.... from the sound of it, maybe you'll be able to buy yourself a bbq sandwich, assemble a picnic, hop on your bicycle and head out to enjoy a lovely day at this new park.  According to the Cary News, 110 acres will be devoted to nature trails and education and soccer fields will be built on the remaining 50 acres. Wou...
