Zumba class is an exercise dance class that combines latin Salsa, Samba, Merengue, with African regae and modern day hip hop.  It has the fun of an hour long party and claims to burn off up to 1000 calories a session.  The Zumba slogan is "ditch the workout, join the party."  But, the sweat tells me it is truly a workout.  This sexy, fun latin movement has made it's way to Apex, NC and the classes are always full!  Lifestyle family fitness off of rte. 55 by Home depot offers 5 classes a week.  I've heard that Cary Dance Productions off of Buck Jones Road in nearby Cary, NC also offer classes.  The new Harmony Pilates Studio in the Historic Tobacco Road building on N. Salem St. in Apex is offering a class this summer, with an intro on March 6th, 2011.  The new Harmony Pilates Studio also...

January's weather was cold and warm here in Apex North Carolina and apparently so were the buyers, many of whom were just "lookers". How many homes did sell in January here in Apex?  35, down from 44 in December.       The lowest priced home was a foreclosure in the historic district of APEX. Listed at $107,900, it closed at $114,001-suggesting multiple bids with the SMARTEST buyer winning the home.            The highest priced home sold was once again in the new home community of Bella Casa. The presale price was $515,000, but the closing price was $526,500, adding on for upgrades and changes to plans.        APEX NORTH CAROLINA HOMES SOLD IN JANUARY 2011     Address Subdivision LP $ SP $ 209 Center Street Not in a Subdivision 107,900 114,001 213 WINDCAP Drive Sunset Hills 138,900 130...

Does this winter weather seem extreme in all parts of the country lately? From floods and rain in the West to Christmas blizzards in New York City to ice storms in the South, we're seeing it all this year. Sunday was finally a nice day here in the Peak of Good Living of Apex North Carolina, so we took the opportunity to take a family walk with the dog to our favorite neighborhood park- Crowder Park off TenTen Rd.     Lo and behold, there was ice on the pond!! 5 days after our big ice storm, parts of the pond were still frozen over!                 Now, not thick enough for a game of ice hockey that my husband dreamed of from when he was young.  But thick enough to keep branches from sinking.            And thick enough to keep the turtles from peeking their heads up or the ducks from sw...

Well, here we are again in the frozen tundra of Apex North Carolina!  Many of us former Northerners have been complaining all week about the cold weather that we thought we had escaped.    For the last few days the "weather people" have been predicting a "wintry mix" for today. Meaning it could snow, sleet, rain, or hail. They've covered all the bases by calling it a wintry mix. As usual, whenever something like this is predicted, everyone runs to the store to stock up on milk, bread, and eggs, like we're not going to see civilization again for months. Then we wake up to hear the Wake County Schools are closed! The lack of snow fighting equipment here makes driving treacherous, so better to just stay home and act like true Southerners.  (we got used to this idea real fast the first year...

Time once again to find out if Santa is going to be nice to the Real Estate market or if we'll all get coal in our stockings this year.  Last year in November we had the end of the first "First Time Home Buyers Rebate" that spurred several closings for me in November. This year, no such luck. So here's the news: In November, 2010,  38 houses closed in Apex North Carolina.    The lowest priced home was a foreclosure priced at $72,000. However, the final sales price was $75,075, indicating probably multiple bids on this home on Smith Rd.           The highest price home sold was once again this month a new construction home in the community of Bella Casa and priced at over $600,000.             Homes Closed in Apex November 2010 Address Subdivision Tot LA Yr B Listing Office LP $ SP $ 813...

Live From Apex, North Carolina... It's the Craig Rutman Radio Show! OK, my dear readers, the other night I had a pretty fun time here in downtown Apex, North Carolina.North Carolina radio superstation, FM Talk 101.1 WZTX, was broadcasting live from Studio 123, a local art gallery on Salem Street (our main Street). The featured guest that evening was North Carolina historian and Apex's Downtown Goodwill Ambassador, JC Knowles. Allan Handelman, a nationally syndicated radio personality, and host of the Allan Handelman show, brought Mr. Knowles in to air their own version of the "Antiques Roadshow". Since I always try to attend big events in the Raleigh/ Cary/ Apex area, and not being one to shy away from some "air time", I knew this was one event I wasn't going to miss. Having inherited a...
