Loads of fun at the Hunter Brothers Farm and corn maze in Florenceville New Brunswick, Canada. We're up in Canada for a late summer vacation, when there's fewer bugs and the nights are cool.  This is a good time of year to be here, and not just because of the weather.  At this time of year there's harvesting to be done, with corn and pumpkins, and potatoes ready to come out of the ground. At the Hunter Brothers Farm they've turned this into a great opportunity for a family fun park, with farm themed activities for the kids.  The corn maze is the big attraction, and I think it may hold the honors for being one of the biggest in the country at 6 acres!  Other fun things to do include:- straw bale castle- zip lines- corn room- tug of war- tube slides- tractor slide- pedal bike race course- ...

Those lazy hazy crazy days of summer, or, we're not on Maui anymore! Not the usual Maui scenes of beaches and palm trees this week!   It's just as beautiful up here in Canada if you know where to look.  Taking it easy on the farm and catching up with family.  If only summer could last forever! Uhoh, I think I hear the tractor and that means time to go help with the haying... Aloha from New Brunswick, Canada!

FRESH - fine dining in New Brunswick, Canada When you're traveling in eastern Canada, it's not always easy to find a good place to eat that doesn't just serve greasy fare.  It seems that French fries and deep fried delicacies are the norm here.  If you want to have a really good fine dining experience you should know about this quaint little restaurant that's located in an old passenger train car.... FRESH. Located in Bristol, just north of Florenceville, on the beautiful Saint John River scenic drive, Shogomoc Railway is easy to miss.  This historic site showcases a restored 1914 CPR train station with a gift shop, railway artifacts and visitor information.  One of the 3 CPR cars has been renovated as a fine dining restaurant.  Sara Caines is the genius behind this establishment, and s...

When my two boys were in the minor hockey league, trips back and forth from Maine into Canada were three and four times a week, or more.  I enjoyed our location on the New Brunswick border, and being able to jump across and take in a hockey game. But now my youngest is a senior and his varsity season just ended. The Slammers and other hockey talent have games at the beautiful Woodstock Carleton County Civic Center arena and just because I am no longer chasing the black puck around Canadian rinks, it's time to take a trip across the border.  The center also has a huge pool that younger kids really enjoy having their birthday parties at and it is reasonable priced to "rent". Woodstock New Brunswick is a beautiful little town similiar sized to Houlton Maine. Maybe hit a movie, check ou...

Established in 1784, New Brunswick was at first divided into eight counties by the Territorial Division Act, 1786. Sometime between 1831 and 1833, Carleton County was set off from York County and a Shire Town (county seat) was established in the Town of Woodstock. Today, Woodstock is by far the largest municipality in Carleton County and is also home of the Woodstock First Nation. You'll still find the Old Carleton County Courthouse, built in 1833. You may also learn more on the Provincial Archives web site. (Ruth, the rest is up to you. Post some pictures and information)
