Holter Lake Montana Homes Cabins and Land for Sale Its time to start thinking about summer in Montana.  Summer to many in Montana means camping, boating, fishing, hiking and ATVing. We are fortunate in Great Falls to have all these recreational opportunities within just minutes of our doors. One popular recreation spot which covers all of the above is Holter Lake.  Holter Lake is a 45 minute drive through the scenic canyon between Great Falls and Helena. 3/4 of the trip is interstate and the rest is a well maintained paved side road. Holter Lake is home to several public camp grounds from which you can boat, camp, fish, waterski, hike and ride your ATV's all from the same spot.  The only catch is most of these sites are first come, first serve.  It can get very busy on the major holiday... 03/02/2013
