This Sunday Dec 6th is the 55th Annual Nixa Missouri Christmas Parade! The parade route will be as follows: Parade will begin at the Community Center travel West on North St., then turn SOUTH on Missouri St., turn WEST on Hwy 14, turn NORTH on Main St., turn EAST on Short St., turn South on Frank St., then East on Kyle St. to disband at the Jr. High. This year's theme is "A Green Christmas". The parade starts at 2:00 PM. Come early to get a good spot!  There are always thousands of people there to enjoy the parade!   12/01/2009

This Saturday Dec 5th at 3:30 PM is the Candy Cane Hunt in Nixa Missouri. Children up to 10 yrs. old are welcome to come hunt candy canes left by Santa's elves around McCauley Park. From 4:00 to 7:00 PM come to the  community center to build you very own gingerbread house. Cost is $5 if you preregister or $6 at the door.  At 6:00 PM Mayor Brian Hayes rings in the holiday season with the Mayors Tree Lighting Ceremony at the Nixa Community Center. Santa Claus will make an appearance after the tree lighting ceremony to visit with the kids and determine who has been naughty and nice this year!  12/01/2009

I have an amazingly beautiful home listed just south of Nixa at 386 Plumtree Dr., that is surrounded by gorgeous woods and scenery. Tonight, I received the following email from my seller: I was cooking steaks on the grill tonight.  I went out to check them and this guy was staring at me when I opened the door then ran off.  I told the family about him and they came out to look and he happened to be coming back up the stairs.  I grabbed the camera and when I got back he was sitting out in the grass posing for us.  He stayed around for a while so we shared some leftover Thanksgiving turkey with him.  See the attached photos of our guest and new friend. I've seen a lot of wolly worms this year, and they are really wolly! Does that mean we are in for a cold and snowy winter? Or is it something about the stripes? I can't remember. I grew up on a dairy farm and my mom and dad always believed that kind of stuff. He would only plant the garden during the right phase of the moon and he read the Farmer's Almanac. The Nixa Missouri Crimson Corps marching band won their first overall title at the Ozarko band festival last weekend at Missouri State University! In the preliminary round they won first in division and outstanding color guard. In the finals they won the overall championship. Congratulations Nixa, way to go! 10/24/2009

On September 14, 2009, the Nixa Board of Alderman passed a law that requires drivers and passengers to wear their seatbelts while driving through Nixa.  While it's only common sense that one should wear their seatbelt, what is significant about this ordinance is that it gives the Nixa Police Department the right to pull you over if they suspect you are not complying.  It also give them the right to issue a citation based solely on seatbelt usage....REGARDLESS OF AGE. Only one council member cast a dissenting vote, Kevin Elmer.  His reasoning was that a seatbelt violation should not constitute the right to inspect or detain.  Statistics were used as arguments for the ordinance.  According to a representative from St. John's Hospital, only 62% of Nixa residents treated at the hospital fol... 09/25/2009

I recently listed a couple of duplexes and have really been thinking about what a great deal and investment they would be for a first time home buyer to live in. Take the one pictured for example, it is in a pooled subdivision and each side offers almost 1400 sq-ft, 3 bedrooms 2 bathrooms, a large yard and a 2 car garage. This one is listed at $169,895. If you plan on occupying one side you can get an FHA for 96.5% of the purchase price. Figuring a 5.65% interest rate the total payment including taxes and insurance would be about $1234.50. If you subtract the rent from your tenant of $675 per month then your total payment is only $559.50. You would have to spend $75,000 or less to get an equivalent payment on a single family residence and you wouldn't be able to find anything comparable... 06/23/2009

In college basketball, they are calling this rivalry week.  I attended Kansas University and I am a die hard JAYHAWK FAN - Rock chalk Jayhawk go KU!!   I have lived in Nixa, Missouri for 15 years now.   There are quite a few Mizzou fans around here.    Last night KU played MU (quite a rivalry).  When they aren't playing against each other I do root for MU.  Just a side note to this also, my daughter, who is a senior in high school is planning on attending MU next year and is going to tryout for cheerleader there!  If any of you happened to watch the game last night, KU led by 14 points at the half and led for 99% of the game - they lost 60 to 62!  I'll get over it eventually and have already had a few phone calls asking me if I am OK.   Tonight the Nixa, Missouri High School basketball ... 02/10/2009
