When the husband of a friend from our local MOMS Club group was deployed she had two little ones at home and a third on the way.  She didn't have family that lived locally but our group does what we can to support each other.  We carpooled to school and helped with what we could.  One thing we struggled providing was help with yard care.  She a two year old in the house and was far along in a pregnancy so trying to spend the afternoon on a riding mower was pretty much impossible.  I called so many different organizations trying to locate help and I learned of a project today which would have been a blessing to my friend at the time and may be something she'll need look at in the future! GreenCare for Troops is a nationwide outreach program coordinated by Project EverGreen.  GreenCare fo...

The Maplewood Barn Theater and Nifong Park will be location of the annual Heritage Festival during the 3rd week in September, 10am - 5pm. Free and open to the public! Parking is available.  The Heritage Festival showcases vendors and artists who demonstrate their skills and trades and sell their creations.  In 2004, the event featured an 1859 town, cowboys and their chuck wagons, American Indian tepees and a Lewis & Clark Camp. Great music and entertainment on four stages, crafts, children's activities, storytelling, hay rides, kettle corn and more make this a fun family event. Now more than ever our industry needs true professionals to take the bull by the horns and step up and make a name for themselves. So in light of this I wanted to share with our readers some of the highlights and educational designations I have achieved over the past couple of months.1) Lending Integrity Seal of Approval: I recently completed the requirements for this designation and hopefully any day now will be recognized by the NAMB (National Association of Mortgage Brokers) as an individual with a higher ethics and educational standard.2) Nominated for the MAMB (Missouri Association of Mortgage Brokers) Board of Directors: Ken Louks the former President of MAMB has nominated myself as a future board member. I am greatly looking forward to getting involved in the governmental affair ...

Columbia, Missouri scored the number 10 spot in Outside magazines "Best Towns" spot in August 2008 issue.  Some of the reasons noted were alternative travel options (mostly cycling) and beautiful, natural surroundings that residents enjoy and maintain in a sustainable way.   Another reason for the popularity is the revitalization of downtown Columbia.  Downtown restaurants, shopping and local festivals add to the allure this area provides to the residents of our city and county.  Welcome to Columbia!

(Columbia Board of REALTORS®)
During the past few months, the Columbia real estate market made an impact on the federal level. The Columbia Board of REALTORS® set out to change the definition of a "declining market" after Boone County found itself on the list. The Office of Federal Housing Enterprise Oversight (OFHEO) requires the two Government Sponsored Enterprises, Fannie Mae and Freddie Mac, to require a higher percentage down for mortgages in declining market locations. Carol Van Gorp, CEO of the Columbia Board of REALTORS®, led the effort for the change in designation. She learned earlier this week that OFHEO eased the requirements for Fannie Mae and Freddie Mac to require the maximum loan-to-value ratio for a loan by five percentage points in declining markets. "This is wonderful for first time homebuyers, wh...

Apparently there is a theme to my blog lately!!  I have put some focus on the variety of activites available for the children in Boone County this summer!  I'm a "planner" by nature and it is time to register!   I know I'm not the only mom looking for ideas of activites to share with the kids.Do you have a young artist at home who has ever wanted to explore their creativity? I'm sure that I am not the only parent looking at the multitude of summer opportunities for my school age children.  I have my lists of options that range from a summer enrichment classes offered by our local school district to day camps offered through Parks and Recreation.  Sports camps are always a popular choice among parents and children.  The University of Missouri offers sports camps that focus specifically on one area.  In my previous life, I worked directly with some of the coaches on these camps and can tell you first hand how much time is spent planning activities and preparing to provide this opportunity for your children. For more information on sports specific camps sponsored by the University of Missouri- Columbia I'm including a link.http://mutigers.cstv.com/camps/miss-ca...
