What makes a community more “liveable”?  Mass transit, for one thing. On Nov. 8, the city and its fellow funding partners for the Ramsey Northstar Commuter Rail station will celebrate the end of the station construction and the beginning of rail service in the city with a 1 p.m. ribbon cutting and a train ride to Elk River for invited guests. Commuter rail service is expected to open on November 14th, 2012, and fares will be $3.50.  Almost (now) less than a gallon of gas! There’s big news in Ramsey Minnesota.  The council made some changes unanimously to an ordinance amendment on June 12, 2012 that makes it possible to allow more chickens on smaller properties and allows residents to keep a bee hive with a permit.  Chickens are now permitted on properties smaller than three acres.   Under the ordinance amendment, residents on the smallest acreage can keep up to six hens, said Chris Anderson, associate planner. As the acreage increases, so does the number of chickens allowed. For residents with 2.75 to 2.99 acres, the proposed maximum number of chickens is 48 hens. But no roosters will be allowed. OK, there are always first time things in this business, but I think this one tops them all. My inspector found several issues with this foreclosed home, most of them obvious. Then he discovered that the crawl space had been used as a shooting range. So much so the foundation wall that was the target, actually was starting to crumble.
