I learned more than how to stuff a turkey or properly dice an onion in my mother's kitchen She hardly ever let me cook (her kitchen), but she let me watch and she talked. She would tell me where this recipe came from and on what special occasion it would have been served. She talked about her mother and how she did things. She talked - I listened and watched. Having an very good visual memory - I learned. (Please don't ask me people's names, I am bad at that.) My mother has been gone now for several years, but her recipes live on, as do her notes. "V.G." on a recipe card means she thought that recipe was very good. "Skip salt", "more sugar" "cook 10 minutes longer" meant just that.      A group of homeowners sought to block foreclosures in Minnesota, but their class action suit has been dismissed by US District Judge Ann Montgomery.  The lawsuit claimed that homeowners were not given proper notice when they were rejected on the right to appeal when dealing with the Home Affordable Modification Program.      The attorney for the homeowners stated that new regulations have been adopted since the lawsuit was filed in July that address some of the raised concerns but that the process is not as transparent as it should be.      What has your experience been working with this program?   11/27/2009

    The Hallet Community Center in Crosby, Minnesota will be offering several free activities for the elderly the week of September 22 to celebrate Active Aging Week, a national event promoted by the International Council on Active Aging. Some of the featured activities include: SilverSneakers Classes which are on going; Muscular Strength and Range of Motion classes at 9:45 A.M. on Monday, Wednesday and Friday; YogaStretch at 10 A.M. on Tuesday and Thurday; Enhances Fitness Class at 11 A.M.       photo by edit felix       Winning the New Club  state championship sponsored by the Minnesota Curling Association was a team from the Brainerd Lakes Curling Association The event was at Curl Mesabi in Eveleth and ran at the same time as the women's and men's  state curling championships . With the advent of the New Club Division - curling clubs that were founded in the last 10 years are now able to compete in a state championship competition.    Home ice for the Brainerd Lakes Curling Association is the Hallet Center in Crosby.  If you want to watch they are curling there most Saturday nights. Having gone to Bemidji State College - I have spent a little time on the ice myself and encourage anyone interested to check out curling.          Along with a new main entrance for the Cuyuna Range Medical Center,  the new pharmacy and inpatient areas will be completed in this phase.  The inpatient rooms are much larger and offer pull out couch beds for family members.  Communications for patients to staff are improved and electronic medical records in place.        After the dust settles, the next phase of construction will begin.  A large sweeping hallway to the inpatient area will feature water sounds and natural lighting for sensory appeal.  Along the hallway will be a cafe, visitor lounges and a chapel.  This phase will be complete early in 2008.  08/15/2007
