The impact of the Internet on real estate has been well documented.  The continuing changes and impacts on other business models in impacting real estate as well. I was notified today that a long time real estate magazine will no longer be published.  We used to have two magazines covering our area.  Now we are down to one.  The distribution channels were different so it made sense to use both. Not everyone agrees that you need multiple sources of advertising but the fact is the Internet alone does not cover the entire buyer or seller market for over 30% of the public.  Think of rural America.  Think of dial-up! This year I attended the Michigan Association of REALTORS® 2010 Annual Convention and Expo held at Soaring Eagle Casino and Resort in Mt. Pleasant.  I was held September 30th through October 1st, and it was the first time I had ever attended.  It was both an exciting, and educational experience for me.  I do have to admit, it perhaps was very different for me than the average first time attendee.   You see, I was awarded REALTOR of the Year at my local board, the Battle Creek Area Association of REALTORS®, and I had to arrive early to attend a special luncheon and partake in practice drilling for the big on stage event where they announced Michigan's REALTOR of the year.  So I arrived after a two hour drive with my wife, after having gotten lost by our GPS when we arrived in Mt. I was born in Central Michigan. Son and Grandson of men that fixed it themselves. I don't remember a time when if something need fixed or built Dad didn't do it himself. I remember when I was very young pestering Dad as he worked on a car in the drive way. I remember the first major project we worked on together. My Mother needed a dependable car, Dad couldn't afford a new one, it was 1956 and insurance adjusters didn't make all that much. Dad bought two nearly new 1956 Oldsmobile 88's, two! Of course there were two little problems! One had rear-ended a truck and there was nothing resembling a car ahead or the front seat.
