Tawas City to try USDA's Canada geese remedies City officials acted to accept several proposed remedies in keeping Canada geese from Tawas City's parks located along Tawas Bay. In previous Tawas City Council meetings, the city manager expressed concern that the Canada geese which populate the park may have led to an outbreak of e coli or escherichia coli, causing a closure at the Tawas City Park beach this past summer. Speculation is the bird's feces was deposited on the beach and leeched into the water after a heavy summer rainstorm. The matter is being investigated by the District Health Department......originally posted at DonsRealty.net

For 24 hours over the weekend, members of 25 teams took turns walking around the Tawas City Park in the fight against cancer. And in the process, Iosco County Relay for Life raised $43,862 for the American Cancer Society, during the 14th annual event here. "There's still money coming in," said the event's local chairperson, Kim Blust. references: john morris

Gateway Park pier project, Tawas City Michigan. Around March 18th. I wrote about Tawas City being granted a request to use excess funding to construct boat launch ramps at Gateway Park. Sandra Brugger, Tawas City councilwoman, was amazed at the sight of Gateway Park Thursday. She finally saw plans that were once only on paper come alive after working for nearly 2 years on a Michigan Department of Natural Resources and Environment (MDNRE) Trust Grant for a pier project in the park. After seeing the 300-foot pier and boat launch project take shape, she said it was well worth the wait. references: jason ogden, iosco news

Park Project Could Include Boat Launch   A Michigan Department of Natural Resources and Environment grant project to build a boardwalk at Gateway Park this spring could bring something extra to the site, according to the city manager. At Monday's Tawas City Council meeting, the state has approved a request by the city to use excess grant funding from the project to construct boat launch ramps at Gateway Park. Tawas City was originally awarded $134,000 in funding from the state, with a $61,000 match from the city, for a total of $195,000 for the project. Boat launch ramps had been discussed at the park, with former councilmen pushing to have the ramps installed and the area dredged before the state money was awarded.   references: Jason Ogden, Iosco News
