Beat the winter blahs this weekend with the first-ever "Frostbite HomeGrown Saturday." in Manistee. The event is scheduled for this Saturday, Feb 20th in Downtown Manistee. It's meant to be a fun, family-oriented way to beat those mid-winter blues and enjoy our community. Activites will take place from 12 noon to 4:00pm on River Street. There's music, a chili cook-off, snowman contest and a winter beer garden. Sounds like a blast! More information and a chili cook-off scorecard are available on my website.   Are you interested in taking advantage of great real estate deals that are currently out there? Everyday, I see incredible deals throughout the local area - like bank-owned cabins in Irons or Wellston and foreclosured homes in Manistee, Michigan. However, like most great deals, these homes are quick to sell. If you want to get a great deal, your best choice would be to work with a Realtor in the area where you want to find a home. Many foreclosures or bank-owned properties have multiple offers the first week that they are listed. A Realtor will have access to new listings immediately, while often the foreclosure websites have old information and homes that have already sold. Here's a few examples of homes that are currently listed: 4 bedroom/1 bath home in Bear Lake - listed at $53,90...

It seems that many buyers are falling into the idea that bank owned properties are the only good deals out there. Here are a few things you might want to consider when you are thinking of buying bank owned properties. 1. Often, the homes are not well cared for. 2. Since they are not well cared for, you might want to think about the extra costs you may have to add to the price of the home. 3. Always have inspections done on anything that is even close to questionable. Better to be safe than sorry. It never hurts knowing what type of improvements you will need to make and what the cost might be. Factor these costs into the price and make sure it is still "worth it". 4. If you are not going to pay cash you might have to do some improvements before you even own the home. Financing a home in...

Looking up Mariah WindSpire!!!   Last month I spoke of  a new manufacturing venture between MasTech Manufacturing and Mariah Wind Power and the possibility of the partnership bringing jobs to Manistee County in my blog Windspire by Mariah Power Part I. Many in Michigan, including myself, have been sitting on pins and needles to hear the decision of this joint venture.   Where will the new home for the manufacturing of this Vertical Axis Wind Turbine be?     This began quietly in early June 2008. While working on the Michigan Energy Fair Allan O'Shea, co-chair of the Michigan Energy Fair and Chair of the Manistee County Commission received a lead that this company called Mariah Power was looking for a permanent home to manufacture the Windspire VAWT. Since June 2008 the both the city an...

ECO August challenge by Stephanie is local happenings.... This is one thing happening in Michigan you don't want to miss.... Have you seen the Mariah Windspire??? A VAWT!                        Isn't it beautiful???                  What is it you may ask???                  This is a new Vertical Axis Wind Turbine, known in the industry as a                  VAWT.                  What does this have to do with                  "how green fits into the localism picture."                  What about JOBS? What about New Home Sales because of new                                                                jobs?" Does that make sense?                    Keep reading to find out more!!! I attended the Manistee County Board of Commissioners meeting Tuesday August 19 and heard this news.....

Another picture of Lake Michigan looking north to the Manistee Pier after the storm.  The runoff has made the water very cloudy.  I hear that the fish will be biting!  This was taken at the end of Merkey Road in Filer Township.  There is a steep bank and lots of clay, which erodes very easily.   Meagan Kempf, RealtorColdwell Banker A.L.M.1121 Parkdale AvenueManistee, Michigan 49660231-723-5310  Direct231-510-5572  CellMeagan@MeaganKempf.comwww.MeaganKempf.comVisit my website:  www.ManisteeForeclosures.com
