Portland, ME Real Estate News

It's no secret to anyone who knows me, I like technology. I am constantly evaluating new products to see how I can apply them to my business and personal life. Smart phones have been revolutionary in how they have allowed me to manage my business as a real estate agent while I'm on the road. While I have used a number of smart phones, the IPhone is currently my platform of choice. These are the top 5 Apps that I have found helpful for clients while they are looking for property. Evernote is a fantastic web-based program. It is used for taking text notes, voice notes, and photos. You can have multiple notebooks (so you can set up one as 'house prospects'). You can then import snapshots, notes you take while at the property and voice notes. You can even import pdf documents, so you can ha...

Portland, Maine, is in store for our first snow fall this Sunday/Monday and while it may not be at the top of your mind with the holidays approaching, we noticed Classy Chassie Car Wash, at 1139 Forest Avenue, is offering 50% off on a three car wash deal through Portland's newest deal of the day website Dealitious.com. Just thought we would bring it to your attention before the snow falls. What a great holiday gift. I am already thinking about the sand and salt that will be building up on my brand new vehicle and how nasty it will look. After talking with the folks over at Dealitious.com, I understand there will be many more great local deals in store in the near future. Stay tuned Portland, Maine!!

Portland Maine now has a new website not only to provide a little something for its followers, but to help encourage users to buy local and support the local economy. That's right, according to the site Dealitious.com, they plan to "negotiate huge discounts on popular local goods, services and cultural events. Then we offer the deals to thousands of subscribers in a free daily email. The deals are activated only when a minimum number of people agree to buy. So our subscribers get a great deal and the business gets a ton of new customers. Win-win for everyone!" Sounds like a great deal for everyone for sure. A visit to the website notes a 50% off deal at the popular Mexican restaurant El Rayo Taqueria, at the corner of York St and High St in Portland, with users having the ability to pur...

Portland, Maine, received some more good news via NBC's Today Show segment "Today's Real Estate" where Matt Lauer interviewed real estate expert Barbara Corcoran and financial editor Jean Chatsky, regarding the market outlook for 2011 and discussed the past year experience. According to the NBC segment on the Today Show, home values across the country dropped a total of $1.7 trillion dollars in 2010, and only 1/4 of the metro areas tracked by Zillow saw an increase in values, HOWEVER, Portland, Maine stood out with San Francisco, and Austin, TX, as "real estate bright spots" in the market, as they saw increases in home values.

Portland Police are now mapping crime activity on the web according to an article today in the Portland Press Herald. Citizens and other interested parties can now head to the internet at this time to understand where and what crime activity is taking place in the City of Portland. According to the article, you can go to www.mapnimbus.com and search for Portland, Maine, and view right on the map where criminal activity occurs and what type of crime is occurring and when it occurred. The program is free to the department at this time as they won a contest, though it is not known if they will continue to use it once they have to pay for the service. In the meantime, have a look and let us know what you think. Perhaps a great tool for those concerned about the safety of their current locat...

Despite slackening demand and reduced transaction volume for Portland Maine taken as a whole...the East End real estate market  continues to remain one of the bright spots.  With its numerous restaurants and fantastic views offered from the Eastern Promendade buyers of all demographics continue to snatch up property on "Munjoy Hill" Recently a single family fixer upper was offered under 200K and it got snapped up within a week, whilst rehabbed condos in the mid 200's will often sell within a month or so no problem relative to the median Portland days on market for a condo hovering closer to 100 or so! There are also some great new condos being built that are a hop, skip and a jump from Portland's Old Port and thus for buyers, if you are ready to jump when a property becomes available......
