The weather in Houlton Maine could not have been any more picture perfect for the 15th annual Northern ME Soap Box Derby Race. Downhill kit car gravity racers in two divisions, stock and super stock enjoyed plenty of sunshine, a slight breeze. As heat by heat, down thru the race brackets a final set of local youth were selected to head west to Ohio. Representing the state of Maine this year in the race in July in Akron will be in the stock division Olivia White and in super stock Sarah Bouchard, both from the town of Houlton ME.  Working on the video edit and will post soon but in the meantime, some photos of the event that went smoothly. Thanks to the lots of race volunteers, an engineered derby hill,  and a great bunch of kids from as far away as Brunswick, Bangor, etc. The bulk of th...

Since 1983 I have sponsored the Mooers Realty little league team and enjoyed years of fun with my own four kids going up thru the ranks and now hoot, holler for other Maine local community baseball players. There is something about having a busy real estate day in Maine and then throwing on shorts, a t-shirt and grabbing your glove to help the team. Tonight after setting up for the Northern Maine Soap Box Derby track and this weekends race, was able to hit a championship game of the Mooers Realty little league team.   All the kids have personalities, skills, fun and humor that make the team each year unique, special. Little league sunset and weekend games in small towns thru out Maine are just one summer past time. In Houlton Maine besides setting up the soap box derby track, and taking...

Paddy Holler is an area of Houlton Maine located at the base of Drakes Hill on Military Street, which is technically US Rt 2, the old way to the Canadian border. Nicknamed because lots of Irish potato farmers heading over to Aroostook County Maine, hanging out in New Brunswick Canada for a spell before crossing over the Houlton Maine border. On the Front Ridge Road in Littleton ME there was a place called "The Burdock". Another haunt frequented by the Irish farming families that landed here after leaving the Great Ireland Potato Famine quite a few years before the Maine real estate broker was born. The Burdock I learned from a fellow who had built a Maine home where it used to be was a make shift social meeting place with a piano. There was rumored to be some consumption of what was ref...

You are down country from Maine, out of state wanting a bunch of cheap land, a small or one big acreage of property of your own. When you Google it, do the search as a buyer, a mild mannered, run of the mill real estate searcher, surfer is not going to pull any punches. The search term for "cheap maine real estate" is more likely to be the words hunt and pecked, hammered out to tap in to the supply of property, the acreages plentiful in Maine. Aroostook County especially with eleven people per square mile is loaded with land.Big pieces of Maine land, with special owner financing to avoid the bank over head charges, the higher rates of interest. So as a Maine real estate broker, it took a few years to weave in to the property information, especially the blog title headline the word "cheap"....

Hero the cat used to live at an Amity Maine home, house I listed, sold a year ago with the property owners heading to Florida but not able to take along the four legged furry pet. Hero followed me around as I shot images, put together video loops for his old home in Aroostook County. My kids had adopted a gray tiger kitten from the local animal shelter in Houlton Maine a few years before. Because Hero was friendly, seemed to have a unique personality, I brought him home to see how he got along with the other cat. The connection between cats went well. But a few months later, my neighbor used to ask me about Steve..a cat they had been feeding, that wandered over from time to time. They did not know Hero was my cat. In the beginning he did not go out often. So I learned I had a double a...

You see the Maine real estate sign go up, in time the weeds shooting skyward around the home and when it does not sell, other brokers, real estate sellers blame it on the market. Bob, the price is wrong. In the best of markets the property is way way over priced. Heads and heels above the rest of the real estate herd of property listings. Priced, warehoused in the nose bleed section of the auditorium, civic center, local area it is parked in, affected by. In Maine, our prices do not spike or tumble. We mosey along because they are always pretty realistic, low cost compared to the rest of the world.      Far less zero places and I joke to New Jersey, New York, Massachusetts, Rhode Island buyers to divide by three and four everything they know about property values where they live no...

Maine homes, oh sure we have those in the real estate inventory in all sizes, prices, locations but also list, sell farms, land, waterfront and even small business ME properties. Our real estate in Maine that we sell is not just one flavor of properties, more than just homes for sale in Maine. Sometimes its homes with land in Maine, lots of property surrounding the houses we list, market, sell.      A farm in Maine might mean five acres or 2000 acres surrounding it. With open land, wooded acreage Maine offers low cost properties..just dig out your calculator and do the math. Imagine 200 acres on water, a river, stream in Masardis Maine in the $90's. Or 197 acres in Crystal Maine in the $70's price range.      So when you think Mooers Realty in Houlton Maine, please please don't just thi...

The Activerain platform gets hyper speed, and leaving the old servers that could not handle the growth, increase in members, blog posts volume behind. Way behind...like a falling stage of a Saturn, Apollo rocket. Blogging about local Houlton Maine real estate, the Southern Aroostook area means you need to hitch a ride on a popular, well laid out blog platform. One where you can learn, growth, stretch. Activerain and about 1550 hammered out blog posts from Houlton Maine about everything from how the statewide Maine MLS works, to ME REALTOR news, local ME properties for sale and everything in between. Glad the new servers with ten day plates are up and running at Activerain. Pushing the AR servers to see what they will do, how fast, how deeply warp drive speeds the dilithium crystals can ...

What's in a name and how do Maine buyers, sellers, other agents, brokers, REALTORS remember that name, how to spell Mooers Realty? Your last name, or the name of your real estate office, agency, brokerage in Maine...maybe using the image of a cow in a marketing approach is a memory remembering tip. The black and white cow did well for Gateway computers..for a while. The black and white Holstein is a farm animal every one likes..because it gives milk, ice cream, does not talk back, has expressive big brown eyes. How can you not like a Maine dairy cow? And when someone asks how do you spell your last name, what's on the sign out from your Maine real estate office, I give them one free stab at it and then shift over to good enough, or tell them to picture, think of a bunch of cows..th...

A vacant Maine house, a home that is vacant, waiting for a SOLD sign on the front lawn and you toying with the idea to rent it out or not. You the property owner have heard, seen horror stories about renters that destroy a place. Had to be practically tear gassed to get them out, exhausting all the legal remedies, deputy sheriff visits. But you yourself would be a super duper renter, off to work and when home puttering to make it neat, clean, better. Finding a renter as good as your respect for the place would provide a happy ending for the home owner. A win-win situation for both of you right? Are all the good renters property owners now though unless a divorce happens, a job transfer? And other than elderly home owners who sell and that moved to apartments for the ease, are most ...

Maine SAD 29's Joe Fagnant, head of the music department is organized, friendly, musically driven, self challenged so hosting the Maine High School Jazz Show Choir Festival is right up his alley. This year's Maine high schools,, 39 of them, bussed to Southern Aroostook County for musical competition. Here is a taste of this year's performances thanks to Maine music video I was able to capture while MC'ing the event.     Houlton Maine took third place honors and male vocalist state award for Maine went to Tyler Delano of this group that performed songs from "Hair Spray". Last year's Maine music competitions were just as talented, choreographed, musical superb..watch in a sampler with this Maine high school music video.      Will post more on these talent groups as time allows.      When you live in a small Northern Maine town called Houlton, in Aroostook County, it is neat to be noticed by the nation. Broadcast into homes coast to coast. Thanks to a clip on a show like the Stephen Colbert Report. Watch the video clip from the Comedy Channel network and see a glimpse of the area I serve which is parked on the Canadian border of New Brunswick.     Half of my relatives are from Canada so when the media sharpens an axe between nations, this disclaimer that Canadians and Mainers in our area do get along well. Border crossing a lot, in my case with two boys who played 98% of their minor games in the province of New Brunswick. The news organizations have picked up on the story and added, embelished and played with the story on a world and national stage during a slo...

Picture you're on a firing field, artillery range and practicing rifle marksmanship to prepare for the real in combat. Shooting and being shot at in combat somewhere around the world or in your own country. Your are on your stomach, gun ker- plink, ker-plunk firing one by one at pre-arranged targets down field. The soldiers you will serve with on each side of you doing the same marksmanship exercise to avoid getting rusty, to keep your artillery skills up with that rifle. Your gun jams, which happens. As as you reload, check the magazine quickly from instinct, your target is hit without your help. Your solider in matching green or camouflage next to you shot his target and instinctively hears your gun not go off in similar succession and quickly swings his rifle to the left, hits your t...

Music and Houlton Maine..no secret this area of the state is rich with music talent and a reputation for high quality productions that win top honors year after year. Why? Talented music teachers that work together and have a common goal, know what each has for a role in meeting the top expectatons the program is known for. Because kids sing hymns early on at churches. Due to younger musicial playing in McGill's Community Band. Because through out the year in Houlton Maine, performances from show choirs, jazz bands, musicals, percussion emsembles and many, many other choral and band groups perform. So love of music and experience and support from the community. A new performing arts center is under construction now and this is year two for the state Maine jazz festival. Last year o...

As you drive up in to Market Square and park, get out of your car in Houlton Maine, you suddenly get hungry, aware of your stomach. Very very hungry, border line starving, anxious, reaching to see if you have an extra dollar or two to hit Sadie's Bakery. The Houlton Maine blog post video is missing one thing..that smell of chocolate, molasses or prime Sadie's Bakery donuts. It's been that way since 1948 in the Shiretown of Aroostook County.      The unmistakable home cooked smell that reminds me of a day as a kid walking on the long driveway at the farm. As I enterted the farm house on the County Road, mom just fishing out fresh, hot, wonderful smelling donuts. Thats odor filled the kitchen, told me life was good. The little holes rounded up too and rolled in sugar. Isn't life the littl...

Anything you post on line to market, sell your real estate or promote your community can scatter like seeds in the wind, or spread like wild fire. It's fun to google a blog under different short and long tail queries and see what comes up, where you show up half way around the globe or many many miles from your home base. Like this blog post on a Houlton Maine farm for sale, complete with video, "live" actors who work for fruits and vegetables and are real hams.      Or the local Houlton Maine science fair video upload finds a comfortable place on another site I had never sampled, knew about until today. Or a Maine apartment five unit we would love to put a sold sign on shows up like Johnny Property Seed planted it somewhere else on the internet to live long, grow and prosper. And ...

It's said some folks are born made for the profession they eventually settle in on, and maybe this early image holding a primitive early version mobile cell phone text device from Western Auto was the start of my real estate career.      In front of the home next door to where we lived before the move to the farm back in about October 1958 ready to text message news of a new neighborhood real estate listing on Franklin Avenue, Houlton Maine 04730. Or is that a graham cracker I'm holding? Anyway how you got in to the real estate industry, the turn of events that led up to the listing, marketing, selling property rodeo we all have several t-shirts from. You know, the ever changing profession involving marketing local ME real estate, the community it is located, and a little dash of o...
