Speechless Sunday - My Favorite Time of Year                                                  The Maryland State Fair, to me, is synonymous with the beginning of fall and fall has always been my favorite time of the year with all the sites and smells that go along with it.  I love the harvest time, the changing colors of the leaves, the smell in the air on a cool crisp autumn day.  But the beginning of that is fair time and I absolutely love it!!  August 23 is the beginning of the Maryland State Fair and I will be there, just like I've been every year since I moved to Maryland in 1997.

What is In the Home Arts Building at the Maryland State Fair? I am!! I'm there a lot, every year for the past 14 years I've worked at the Maryland State Fair in the Quilt Department in the Home Arts Building. We start the Monday before the fair opens, accepting exhibits. On Wednesday they are judged and Thursday it all comes together with displaying the entries so that Friday when the fair opens you get to see what your friends, family and others have been working on all year. But, besides that people work all year to make items to enter into the Maryland State Fair. You'll find photography, needlework, knitting, rug hooking, weaving and spinning, sewing, canning, baking. One of my fondest memories from childhood is of entering things in the fair. Every year I'd enter hand writing and e...

Timonium Farmers Market is in Full Swing The Timonium Farmers Market is open and in full swing for it's third year.  I dropped over to pick up some fresh vegetables today and was surprised to find out it had moved.  A friend of mine tried to go last week and she said it wasn't there.  So, when I went today and it wasn't in it's usual spot I wondered, but there was a sign pointing so I found out it had been moved down York Road to the entrance opposite the Giant Shopping Center next to the electronic State Fair sign.  The market is open from 2:30 until 5:30 pm and there is a lot of free parking.  As the summer moves along there will be more produce.   Albright Farms had corn, tomatoes, zucchini, onions and today they had fresh Rock Fish today too.  I picked up some corn and we had it for...

Baltimore County Farmers Market Opening June 6, 2012 I love the Farmer's Market and I count the days until it opens.  There is nothing like fresh local produce.  The taste is so much better plus by buying local you are supporting the local economy and the money makes it's way back into your own community.  My local Farmer's Market is located in Timonium, MD at the Maryland State Fairgrounds main entrance and opens on Wednesday June 6, 2012 at 2:30 until 5:30 pm until October 31, 2012.  There is a lot of variety at the Farmer's Market and most of all the produce there is local, vendor's are drawn from Maryland only and most of the vendors are from Baltimore County.  There will be fresh fruit and vegetables, fresh Artisan breads, local wines and preserves and much more.   Last year I did ...

Vegans Timonium, Maryland ~ December 2011 Blog Challenge Successful actions, thank God for the Internet! I offered to take my new client to lunch, honestly, I try not to involve meals however, I’m trying new things for 2012 and thought I’d test it out tomorrow. When I mentioned it to my client he said “he and his fiance were strict vegans and only eat politically correct organic non-denominational restaurant's.” SO, I looked to see if there were any vegan restaurant's near our tour route …. I found one!Natural Brothers inside The Natural Market at 2149 York Road Timonium, MD 21093 443-591-0975I updated my client with my solution for lunch and he said......“Just kidding!” Vegans Timonium, Maryland ~ December 2011 Blog Challenge

Timonium Farmers Market - What to do with Those Purchases - Herbert Squash The Wednesday market day in Timonium, MD will continue until October 27, 2011.  The Farmer's Market is held inside the main gate at Maryland State Fairgrounds.  I have been writing a regular blog blog  weekly about what to do with your purchases.  I had several requests for this to continue.  The market is open from 3pm to 6pm on Wednesdays.  Now that we are in the fall season you'll see more winter vegetables like these. Herbert Squash are also known as Pampoenmoes and are a popular South African food.  They are a member of the Pumpkin family and the flesh is very similar to that of a pumpkin.  So, any recipe you would use a pumpkin for you could substitute this squash for.  I am roasting the seeds right now to ...
