How much is a view worth? I am working on a competitive market analysis for a mid-century home in Silver Spring, MD.  It's a cute house, and it's in a neighborhood with five or so sub-subdivisions, each with it's own style of houses.  And many of them (including this one) have had a lot done since they were built.  So doing a side-by-side comparison can be tricky. This particular home, however, has something that almost everything else in the neighborhood lacks.  That would be a view.  Not just a view of woods, but a spectacular view of wooded parkland that leads down to one of the major area creeks.  This is what you see from the deck off of the family room addition in back. My old tulip magnolia was badly damaged several years ago in a wind and snow storm.  It was so sad to see the branches split off all the way down to the bottom of the trunk and even sadder to have to have such an old pretty tree of over 20 feet chopped back and almost all the way down.  I never dreamed it would return, grow or bloom again.  This year I was rewarded with a much smaller tree but healthy and in full bloom!   04/20/2011

The Camellia Bush is finally blooming.  It's very late this year.  This camellia is usually blooming by sometime in February.  I heard that the woman that owned my house way before me was best friends with a woman that lived three doors up from me.  Both women are now deceased but they had a love of gardening and "the South".  The lady that lived in my house was from South Carolina and her Camellia Bush is planted at the back of the house.  It is unusual because it has white with fushia striped flowers and on the same bush flowers that are solid fushia.  The only camellia bush that I have seen just like this one is in the front yard a few doors up from my yard, where her friend used to live.  04/13/2011

I've always liked this bookstore. The atmosphere, arrangement and smell remind me of the "bookmobile" that used to come to our neighborhood when I was a kid.  Remember them?  This place is exactly what you think of when you think of a great used book shop.  Long rows of tall bookshelves, cluttered, dusty, books piled almost to the ceiling.  It's packed with books, hardbacks, paperbacks, periodicals, reference books, magazines and a huge selection of romance novels.  The organization here is a little crazy, but searching for a book is half the fun of visiting this shop.  Just browsing in here is a great relaxing escape and I could do it for hours.  Rooting through shelves and stacks of miscellaneous books is a experience you can't put a price on.  The prices are decent, higher but someti... 04/04/2011
