The Savage Mill historic district includes the former cotton mill which was transformed into a vibrant shopping and entertainment district and is also home to many small (artsy) businesses as well as the housing that was built for its workers. Besides bungalows and colonials, you'll find several charming brick duplexes which originally comprised two floors plus a cellar, two bedrooms, and one bathroom on approximately 1,000 square feet. Many of these duplexes built in the early 1900s have been expanded over the years. A duplex with the original footprint will sell in the upper 200s whereas the larger models that now come with 3-4 bedrooms will run well into the 400s. The Savage Mill historic district is one of my favorites in Howard County, and - in my humble opinion - is underrated. Dropping 40 feet on a giant swing... how loud would you scream? My family and I are frequent visitors at the historic Savage Mill. We usually stop at Terrapin Adventures for a bit to watch people zip through the forest, drop 40 feet on a giant swing, master the high ropes course and scale the climbing tower. We only get to watch because my children don't meet the age (at least 8), height (at least 48") and weight requirements yet ... and because they are such skinny-minis it may be a few years until they hit the required 60/70 lbs range. But watching everyone can be a lot of fun, too! Dropping 40 feet on a giant swing ... how loud would you scream?

"Rams Head Goes Irish on St. Patrick's Day With A Huge Party!" The Rams Head locations are known for their great parties - the 2012 St. Patrick's day events promise to be no different. The only difficulty you may have is deciding which Rams Head to visit! The Annapolis locations, the Rams Head Tavern on 33 West Street and the Rams Head Roadhouse on Generals Hwy, will kick off the celebrations at noon with tent parties! All locations will have drink specials starting with 50 cents for a Guiness from noon to 1 pm and $3 for a Green Beer while supplies last. Naturally, traditional Irish fare will complement the menu at all Restaurant locations. Live entertainment is also lined up for each location from noon until close. My personal favorite is the Rams Head Tavern at Savage Mill - it's su...

I followed Marty around Historic Savage Mill and got my spook creep on.   Having blogged about the Ghost Walks of Ellicott City and Historic Savage Mill earlier this month I was increasingly curious to go and experience one myself. When one of my past clients friends suggested to get together this weekend, it was the perfect opportunity. We not only had a great evening but definitely got our spook on! Marty is one of the tour guides for the Ghost Walks in Ellicott City and Savage Mill. He did a wonderful job of mixing history of the mill with the stories about its resident ghosts. Marty has enough material to start a 2nd Ghost Walk of Savage Mill and I hope he'll do that in the future. For now, you'll hear about Ms. King, the tragic staircase next to the Ram's Head Tavern, right before...

Several ghosts are said to roam the buildings of the historic Savage Mill in Savage, MD, noises are heard occasionally that nobody can explain and little occurrences happen here and there that cannot be debunked.   There is the story of the little girl who fell in the Old Weave building and died and who is said to be "still playful". It may be her who trips up people on the same step or who moves things around ... Suri, the security guard at Savage Mill who makes his rounds at night can assure you that "the little girl" is very much around. He has seen her during one of his shifts at 2 am "in her white dress" and "very clearly, very distinct"... an experience that left him just a bit shaken. Shannon, an associate at Artcraft, showed me a piece of furniture in the store that she'll somet...

While in a class yesterday the instructor told me about this really cool place I had never heard of despite I don't live far from it.  It is called Terrapin Adventures and they are located in Savage, MD.  If you think you are BRAVE check it out and see if you can do it.  Think your NOT AFRAID OF HEIGHTS???  Well it looks like Terrapin Adventures will put that to the test.  You know the best way to test your strength is to FACE YOUR FEARS!! Go to the website for Terrapin Adventures and check out the video!!  Very cool!  If you go let me know what you thought of it.  Have a GREAT DAY!!! As reported by the Associated Press yesterday, the Savage Towne Centre, in Howard County, has been added to Maryland's Zones, preparing for up to 60,000 incoming BRAC job positions in the State expected by 2015.  By naming the Zone in the plan, the 13 acre area development, bounded by 32, Dorsey Run, and the MARC Train Station, will have State tax credits available to encourage development. Exciting to see progress! Best regards, Gretchen
