Yesterday's foray to an upper Montgomery County Christmas tree farm was a bit of a bust, but the hunt was actually successful in the end.  On the way to my formerly favorite tree farm, I passed a bunch of lots.  One had this really cute little flirty guy on the front porch who, as I sped by toward the competition, seemed to call out "No!  Stop here!" And on the way home, I did. This was a small family operation.  They had trees from Pennsylvania that had been cut down a few days ago.  They looked (and smelled) fresh and healthy, and they were beautifully shaped.  And I bought one. Man years, I get my Christmas tree from a local tree farm where you can select and cut down your own tree.  It started about ten years ago at the Naughty Pine Plantation near Poolesville, Maryland. The Naughty Pine's owner was a retired orthopedic surgeon who was there to greet customers when they pulled up to the parking area with hot cider.  He drove them around on a flatbead truck to show off and explain the features of the various types of trees.  And when you saw the tree, you could hop off with your saw, cut it down, and they would send a small flat bed to bring you and the tree back to the parking area.  There they would put the tree on a shaker to get rid of all of the dead needles, wrap it up, put it on the top of your car, and collect $25.
