Leaf Raking Advice in Anticipation of Hurricane Sandy   Gaithersburg, MD – (October 25, 2012)   In anticipation of potentially heavy rains and high winds associated with any effects of Hurricane Sandy, Gaithersburg's Public Works Department is urging residents to either suspend or modify leaf raking activities this weekend and into early next week. Montgomery County, Maryland Traffic Safety Notice There may be cameras at selected intersections throughout Montgomery County, Maryland to photograph cars impinging on the pedestrian crosswalk as they come to a stop at a red light. In fact, there is a solid white line JUST BEFORE the pedestrian crosswalk at all intersections and if cars do not stop BEFORE THE SOLID WHITE LINE they will be photographed and issued a ticket. Visitors need to know that there are also many speed cameras in Montgomery County.  Drivers need to carefully watch and observe the speed limits.  Favorite camera placements seem to be where there is a quick speed limit reduction. Drive carefully and watch for bikers.  A school bus hit a biker this week. American Indian Trade Blankets, VMFA, Chihuly Exhibit IMG_7747 Ph...

AN IDLING CAR IS A CAR THIEF'S BEST FRIEND - STATE POLICE LAUNCH EDUCATION AND ENFORCEMENT CAMPAIGN   Maryland State Police Press Release  (PIKESVILLE, MD) – As cold weather approaches, Maryland State Police are launching a campaign to warn drivers that an unoccupied vehicle with its engine running is an open invitation to car thieves who are prowling neighborhoods, convenience stores, and gas stations, looking for the easy steal. Troopers across Maryland will be working to educate drivers that leaving a vehicle running, or with the keys in it, are the quickest ways to have it stolen. Leaving a vehicle unoccupied with the engine running is also illegal. Violators fortunate enough to find their vehicle still there when they return, just might find a state trooper waiting to issue a cita...

Pincushion Flowers, Kentlands: Photo Editing Tips   When you are photographing flowers, it is good to keep the original image in the natural color.  However, it you want to experiment with your iPiccy.com photo editing, you can select your favorite colors.  Photo ID secret:  When the image numbers of my photographs are followed by a letter such as A or B, the photographs have been edited.  I recommend this to you as well.  When you wish to save changed images to your computer, just add a letter or your preferred code. I store photographs on Flickr.  From Flickr, I can select the size of the image and copy and past them to blogs.  After the edited photographs are on your computer, you can move the images to Facebook album with up to 200 photographs per album.   Enjoy the colors of the se...

Make a wish! Have an outstanding week.   How to Wish on a Dandelion   First look for the fluffiest dandelion you can find. The seeds should be about to fall off but it is best when none have already done so. If you are lucky enough to happen upon a patch of them you will easily tell which of the stems is crying for your breath. Pick that one and don’t make the magic wait any longer.   Pick the dandelion carefully. You don’t want to send any seeds on their way prematurely. If the wind is blowing you may need to block the breeze with your body as you prepare your seeds for flight. Once you have your stem, it is time to think about your wish. Important rule, never tell anyone for what you are wishing.* If you are making a wish primarily for yourself it is always a good idea to tack one on ...
