Oakley Cabin sits alongside Brookeville Rd, just a short drive (or walk) from historic Brookeville, MD. The log cabin was part of the Oakley Farm and its land was originally owned by Colonel Richard Brooke, also known as "the Fighting Quaker". Oakley Farm's 'big house' dated back to the 1760s - sadly it was destroyed by a fire in the 1970s. Oakley Cabin, built around 1820, is one of originally three such structures and is representative of slave or tenant housing. According to Montgomery County Parks, Oakley Farms was operated by Richard B. Dorsey - a slave owner and later sold to Dr. William Bowie Margruder, also a slave owner.
