There is so much beauty around the Washington Metropolitan area.  Today, I thought that I'd be taking photos from the other side of the Potomac River at Mount Vernon, but thank heavens for the GPS system on my iPhone, which showed me that I did not want to go to Mount Vernon (on the Virginia side), but to Piscataway National Park, on the Maryland side.  Oh, and the view is wonderful from either place! 07/13/2014

     I try to spend at least part of my weekends visiting open houses and new construction developments.  I like to see what the available stock is, and knowing what the models look like first hand allows me to be able to  discuss them pros and cons of a development with my clients. I'll Give Your client $60,000 If They're Serious...      At any rate, I was in Accokeek, MD yesterday visiting model homes, and when I asked for the price list, the developer's representative told me that she was allowed to knock $60k off of any listed model price!  I won't say that builders name here (I'm not out to get people in trouble with their clients), but let's just say I was floored by the statement!      I can't tell you how much I love hearing news like this!  It seems that a woman named Delores Smith in Accokeek, MD, who has worked as a foster mother to over 125 children, is on the right path to getting her home re-built.  She was evicted in 2003 after the house was condemned due to an oil leak.  Turns out the oil company was found negligent but no damages were awarded.  Since then she has been living in a poorly insulated farm house that her parents owned.     Fortunately, Terry Barnes, a local homebuilder, heard the story and has stepped in to help.  He's now working with volunteers to get her home rebuilt.  Also stepping up to the plate is Bill Hocker, a lender with Countrywide and president of Southern Maryland Business Network.  They have stated that they will use all availa... 10/30/2007
