Real Estate Corner…    Q.  I’d like to do a makeover on my house and make it the look more luxurious, but I don’t have a lot of money to spend.  What do you suggest? A.  1)You can make your home look more luxurious with a fresh coat of paint and a little bit of creativity.  Try the new faux treatments and other new painting techniques.  Your local home improvement store-brand paint usually runs about $30 per 5 gallons. Give your kitchen cabinets a clean, quick makeover by applying a coat of flat primer. After it dries apply a top coat of semi-gloss latex enamel. Another trick: add crown molding where the wall meets the ceiling for a elegant style. Kits are available at home improvement stores.       2)  Ceramic tile flooring can add luxury to your entryways, kitchens and bathrooms for...

Attached is a link to a letter, written by Amy Coskie of Shrewsbury, to the editor of the Community Advocate.  In the letter, Coskie endorses a proposition 2 and 1/2 override that would allow Shrewsbury, MA real estate taxes to go up.  The writer says that the schools are running with deficits, and the police and fire departments, are understaffed. Coskie also argues that the taxes in Shrewsbury are relatively low compared to surrounding communities, and  data from the Massachusetts Department of revenue backs the writer's claims.  Here are the 2013 residential property tax rates for Shrewsbury, MA real estate, and the surrounding communities. Shrewsbury, Mass Real Estate - $11.67 Northborough, Mass Real Estate - $16.11 Southborough, Mass Real Estate - $16.14 Westborough, Mass Real E...

Shrewsbury Real Estate News and Commentary: May 25, 2011 My primary source for information used in this report is provided by MLS Property Information Network, Inc. Links to specific reports will be placed in the article. In the first quarter of 2011, 34 single family homes listed for sale in Shrewsbury, MA were SOLD for a Total Market Volume of almost $13 Million Dollars. At first glance, that sounds good but step back in time to the first quarter of 2010 when 53 single family homes listed for sale in Shrewsbury, MA were SOLD for a Total Market Volume of almost $22 Million Dollars.   You would not be alone in thinking UH OH! when you look at these numbers but lets not be hasty... what happened back in 2009 you ask?  and that would be a very good question.  In the first quarter of 2009,...
