Grafton is known for a Nipmuc Indian Village (now known as Hassanamisco Reservation); its early settlement by Europeans in 1718, and its significance in the early industrial revolution. Grafton was officially incorporated as a town in 1735. Grafton stands tall in the industrialization of the Blackstone Valley. Its Northeast Village was once know as "New England Village". The town was named after the Duke of Grafton, a title created for the illegitimate son of King Charles II of England. Ethan Allan ran a gun factory in Grafton in the early 1800's.
