There are many fascinating components of the real estate business, and there has been a great evolution of how an office runs.  Every office has a policy and procedure manual.  I think the RE/MAX system has had a tremendous affect on allowing more independence to take place within a conventional real estate office.  The commission splits of decades ago have not completely disappeared, but there are now a variety of splits offered in most offices.  It goes well beyond the old days of 50/50.  Our RE/MAX office offers splits ranging from 50/50 to 95/5.  The costs vary accordingly, and some of the lower splits allow you to receive a monthly budget for advertising.  The majority of agents today are on an 80/20 with no fees.  Now that's a good deal!!  We make life easy for our agents. Marketing, as I've said in several past blogs, is the first step in developing a successful real estate business.  If the phone does not ring, there will be very little or no business.  How fortunate we are today to have a networking real estate site as we do with Activerain.  It's a small investment with a large return, if worked consistently and properly.  Years ago, we relied on print advertising.  I can't speak for you, but I know it dug deeply into my pockets!!  I have eliminated all print ads, and the only type of printing I purchase is postcards for direct mail advertising.  Direct mail is also expensive, but it works.  Sometimes the more expensive forms of advertising work best during tough times because not many agents want to spend the money.  That's a reason for me to increas... 01/19/2010
