Braintree will be having a Holiday Open House from 1 to 4 p.m. on Sunday, December 12, at town hall.  There will be Victorian carolers, local dance troupes, children’s activities, and free photos with Santa.  The event is sponsored by the Braintree Board of Trade event.  Also, the Rotary Club of Braintree will hold a memorial tree lighting ceremony at 3:30 p.m. on the grounds of the Thayer Public Library. The Braintree Public School District announced that it has received a grant from the Blue Hills Community Health Alliance to start a "Let's Put Fit in Fitness" program. The money will purchase age-appropriate fitness equipment and healthy snacks for children in the Braintree public schools.  The goal of the program is to encourage kids to have a healthy attitude about food and exercise. The grant comes at a perfect time since more and more parents are concerned about their kids lack of exercise and weight problems. The town of Braintree currently has no full-day kindergarten program.  Many parents have expressed an interest in the town starting a full-day program, and the town's latest census supports such an initiative.  If you are new to Braintree, have small children, and/or are considering starting a family, why not express your view on starting a full-day kindergarten program by completing the Braintree school survey? Last night the Braintree Planning Board gave its approval for the construction of a Dave and Buster's, a popular restaurant and games chain, to occupy the former Circuit City building at the South Shore Plaza. The company now needs to win the approval of Braintree's license board for the 168 amusement games proposed for the business. The church is expecting to serve lunch and dinner to several thousand people over four days during its 8th Annual Grecian Festival Thursday through Sunday at the church, 119 Common Street, Braintree, MA. “We served about 7,000 people last year, and hopefully we’ll serve a few more this year,” said Demetrios Seremetis, the vice president of the church council. Mina Demestihas of Canton is one of the members of the kitchen crew. “We’ve made 50 pans of pastitsio and moussaka, 52 trays of spinach pie, 3,400 dolmathes,” she said. Mortgage Rate Forecast for June 24, 2010 Here are some of the events affecting mortgage rates today: What Mortgage Backed Securities (MBS) Are Doing Today: The price of the FNMA 30-Year 4.0% MBS coupon opened at 100.75 this morning - the same as yesterday's close. At 9:30 AM, the 4.0% MBS coupon was trading at 100.91 - up 5/32 from its opening. It is customary in the MBS market to track the coupon that is running closest to par, which is 100.00. Due to market improvements, we are now tracking the FNMA 4.0% coupon. Remember, on mortgage backed securities (MBSs), as the price goes up, the yield comes down - and so do mortgage rates.
