One of the things I enjoyed about teaching was the sense of schedule. Syllabus the first night, lecture for a while, presentations, then a final exam. A nice hand shake from the student (or a bag of burning dog poop), and the semester was over. Before long a new crop of students would come along and the cycle would begin anew.  Real estate practice is nothing like this. Unless you only plan on doing one transaction at a time (not good for the budget), real estate is more of a treadmill. As one deal is nearing closing, others are spread all over the map. I've went to closing, done an initial buyer consultation, and a home inspection all in the same day! Talk about needing a day planner.  For me such maddness is one of the benefits of our field.
