Kansas City area voters are getting ready for spring and for the upcoming elections for the KC Metro area to be part of the past. Kansas City Missouri and Kansas City, Kansas have hearty election programs and issues. Many of the smaller cities that make up the community character of the Metro area are also selecting city government and school board members. It is encouraging to see candidates willing to take time from their lives to run for office. Holding office in the smaller political offices interrupts a person's REAL life, REAL economics and REAL goals. I would like to introduce you to Downtown Overland Park. It has been said in our local papers that Downtown Overland Park is the "heart and soul" of Johnson County. It is a place were people come together for festivals, parades, celebrations, and bi-weekly Farmers Market days. It is a welcoming, friendly, and safe place.In the 1990's the downtown area was struggling. Many of the shops sat empty. We are seeing a change for the better. As you drive or walk along Santa Fe Drive you get that "main street" feeling; clocktower, quaint shops, and inviting restaurants line Santa Fe Drive.My favorite time to stroll around downtown Overland Park is on any given Saturday morning between April and October. Deanna Rose Children's Farmstead at Overland Park, Kansas was established n 1976 as a living history project of Overland Park, Kansas.  In 1985, the Farmstead received its present name and was dedicated in memory of Deanna Rose, an Overland Park police office who died in the line of duty.The eight-acre Farmstead is home to many types of farm animals, with the babies being a special attraction in the spring.  The baby animals are available to interact with the visitors, especially children., but there are slides in the silo too and hayrides, picnic tours and other good times.The intent of the Farmstead/Park is to replicate a turn of the century farm with suitable buildings which were used to work with the conditions of the time.  With no air conditioning, cooking was moved to the summer ... 01/16/2007
